Showroom Lamborghini written off during Sydney customer test drive

A PRIZED $400,000 Lamborghini was left a mangled mess after a test drive through the city went horribly wrong.

The prospective buyer was behind the wheel of the white Lamborghini Gallardo when he lost control of the vehicle, hitting a barrier on the Macquarie St entry to the Cahill Expressway about 9am yesterday.

Lamborghini Sydney salesman Ian Watts, who was in the passenger seat at the time, had the nerve-racking job of calling his boss and telling him about the damage caused to the luxury vehicle.

The front of the car was a complete wreck, with the impact ripping the front right-hand wheel from its axle and the bonnet from its hinges.

Lamborghini Sydney managing director Andrew Smith said that, luckily, the car was insured.

He said the customer was not speeding at the time of the incident, and would not be required to pay any damages.

"It appears he panicked - these things happen," he said.

"It doesn't matter as long as no one was doing anything stupid or crazy, and no one was injured."

Mr Smith laughed as he said he had not yet received any offers from the man to buy the car.

I would hate to see what the car would have looked like IF he was speeding.

Looks like there's quite a lot of shit on the road. Probably lost traction.

These are basically race cars. Way too much power for any average idiot to handle. These clowns should get some basic race car driving lessons before they drive these things.

    ^ so says an expert...

The driver put his put down, got a shock and lost control! I once test drove a TVR Tuscon and nearly did the same thing, I was poodling around Barnet when the salesman harassed my into putting me foot to the floor until the rev indicator turned orange, what a fuking shock that was... went from 60 odd mph to about 140 in no time. Didn't buy the car. Would've killed meself.

My mate did the same thing, I was at his house and his parents had gone away for the weekend leaving the brand new TVR Chimaera in the garage. I talked him into taking it out for a test run and he lost the back end and spun it going in a straight line.

Luckily we didn't hit anything and there was no damage. Managed to get it back into the garage without anybody finding out. We were only 14.

A friend let me take his new 2 door rather sporty saab for a run. I had never drive a turbo charged car before and the fool told me to drive like a normal car. Something we goth got to regret when I floored the accelerator to join a roundabout with a bloody deep whole in the middle. The turbo charger cut in just before I straightened up in to the inside lane on the roundabout. It was like a f**king rocket, how i managed not to crash through the barrier and go flying I don't now. A right white knuckle experience... he never did let me drive it again.

Saying that if you are going to smash up a car on a test drive, you might as well have the bragging rights of a labugini than a scoda. In for penny in for pound as they say

When I worked for Koenigsegg in Sweden, Top Gear magazine came to test the 1000bhp Biofuel CCXR, my manager was driving one of the Top Gear photographers to the test track in the CCXR and gave it some beans, to show off no doubt, he got it badly out of shape, came of the road and rolled it. Top Gear didn't get to test it but they did get some juicy pics of the wreckage and my manager on the phone trying to explain what he had just done. He was a wanker, doesn't work for them any more.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

The worrying part is that some poor soul will buy it after it has been straightened out! "Delivery Mileage only"
