The last count I read, only a few hundred are left, and the locals didn't want them to leave, but things got worse for them after USA "liberated" the place.
    This is a lie.

Well in fairness the Sunni are a lot more tolerant than the Shi'a and one thing the yanqui infidel did was empower the Shi'a.

Iraq continues to persecute Christians, 750,000 driven out since 2002, out of 1.5 million before the war with USA.

Lo and behold, the stalking flutterer has arrived again. (must get a fly swat)

Greetings o gormless one, you seem a little confused. Are you lost?

    No?

Then do get lost, that's a good girl.

If you take your friend Gibbs along you can help each other out with your homework and you won't be so lonely.

    Now back to topic.

It's about the new Islamic centre opening near WTC with hardly a protest.

Shows a good degree of religious tolerance and maybe the average NY Sepo is slowly waking up to the fact that it wasn't a bunch of Muslims armed with box cutters that did the job on 9/11.

    Slowly the mists dissolve.

I'm thinking of going to Mecca soon and applying for permission to build a Roman Catholic church just around the corner from one of their mosques.
    They'll allow that won't they ?
    I mean,in the interest of religious cooperation etc.etc ??
Yes, I'm sure It'll be OK.

Ask for a Mosque in the Vatican while you're at it.

No no you've got it all wrong, you can't call it a "Church", you have to call it a "Catholic Centre". Then everything should be fine.

^^ Sorry, Il papa won't do that again.

The last time that kind of thing happened they built a mosque inside the biggest church they could find in Spain and called Muslim art.

    Beats me.
The church should have sued for copyright .

Ya could pretend it was a school or a day care centre Strongarm.

Just don't call it a pub, or it'll become the most popular place around.

The Hague Sophia in Istanbul used to be a church too, but they added a few minarets for good measure. Glad they didn't knock it down though.
Of course, several ancient temples in this part of the world used to be Hindu as well. Like, so what?

Islam has a tradition of building mosques on top of other religions' holy sites, especially temples, a bit like tagging, claiming the territory.

You got a good spot, I want it off ya, attitude.
Causes heaps of problems. Then they gotta convert non believers or chase them away.

Mind you, the xtian church did the same, went all over Britain and Ireland and carved crosses on anything "pagan". and took over Druidic holy sites for their chapels, long before the Roman Catholic church was formed.

A bit of a spook thing, get rid of the scary old strange (not our mob) stuff and put a nice new god box on top.

^ it's quite normal, and has happened throughout world history when one religion takes over from the old. There is no problem about this with Islam in particular, seeing as they recognise JC & Moses as Prophets. Of course, in Moorish Spain, several places of worship that were once Islam are now Christian too.

Considering that some- possibly most- of the best architecture from "olde times" is associated with religion, I consider that a good thing. And there are very few good things indeed that I have to say about organised religion. It certainly beats the primitive Taliban, and their destruction of old Buddhist carvings.
