Here's how to deal with a riot:

Here's how to deal with a riot: Chilean police use water cannon and tear gas on rampaging mob

Anti-riot police in Chile have shown their British counterparts how to control unrest after turning water cannons and tear gas on a rampaging mob.
Masked demonstrators burning cars and looting shops in the capital Santiago were met with force as Chilean police cracked down on further unrest over state education.
By last night, at least 273 protesters had been arrested across the country, and 23 police officers were injured in the clashes.

Hard-line approach: Demonstrators take cover behind a sign as anti-riot police employ a water cannon in Santiago, Chile

Clashes: Students hurl rocks and Molotov cocktails at an armoured police van in Valparaiso

It is the latest in more than two months of unrest in the country over the way public education is funded.
Youths torched cars and barricades and hurled rocks, paint and even furniture at police in the capital.

Apartment buildings were also attacked, with street signs used to smash windows.
High school and university students have refused to attend classes, taken over schools and staged demonstrations to press their demand for fundamental changes in how Chile finances public education.

Torched: A burnt out car has been overturned in the capital. Protesters are calling for education reform

Fighting back: Mounted police officers take evasive action after students throw tear gas canisters back at them

Staying on top: A police officer leaps over a rock in Valparaiso on the coast

Message: People carry a giant Chilean flag with the message - 'education - independent, dignified and free

Concerns have been raised that private universities, which enjoy non-profit tax status, are not reinvesting in educational improvements as required by law.
Underfunded municipalities are also left in charge of high school education nationwide.
This has left most schools starved of resources, while leaving some wealthy neighbourhood schools well off.
Chile's small upper class sends its children to private schools or even overseas for their education.
Last week, a banned marched ended in nearly 900 arrests in the capital. There have also been peaceful marches across the country, calling on the government to provide 'free and equal' public education.

Detained: Two officers help a student affected by tear gas before arresting them in Santiago

Support: A young boy carries a sign saying 'I support a better education' and, right, one protesters brandishes a street sign at watching police officers

Masked man: A protester hurls red paint at officers carrying riot shields in the capital

University of Chile student president Camila Vallejos said 150,000 marched on sidestreets in the capital because they had been blocked from marching ont he main avenue.
There are thought to be as many as 80,000 involved in the marches.
But Interior Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter said the violence showed student leaders could not control their demonstrators.
Teachers union president Jaime Gajardo reiterated the students' call for a national referendum on their demands - an idea dismissed by the governing centre-right as 'dangerous'.
Student leaders used social networking sites to spread the word for supporters to engage in 'cacerolazos' - where pots and pans are banged in protest.
Pot-banging in the middle of the night was a frequent method of protest during General Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship between 1973 and 1990.

Running battles: This protesters tries to find shelter as he is hit by a water cannon blast

Clash: Police face off against students involved in a 'cacerolada' - where pots and pans are banged in protest

March: Tens of thousands of students have been involved in protests across the country in the last two months

Defiant: This protester, and a friendly dog, tries to stand up as he is hit by a water cannon

At least the Chileans seem to have some legitimate beef regarding important education issues.. As opposed to a bunch of feral chavs looting designer gear in some urban lord-of-the flies scenario. While our supposed "police force" just look on, having been castrated by fucking socialist politicians.

I think the UK (as a non-Brit) has allowed this go on too much.

Like I said in the other thread, it's not political/social, but just destroying shit and stealing shit.

Fuck the rubber bullets and water canons - start shooting with live ammo - but it won't happen.

The british police force is just too soft. Go ahead and hide behind your CCTV cameras and whatnot in hopes of having those find the suspects rather than taking the time to do actual police work.

    bring on the rubber bullets.

Rubber bullets. What a laugh. Now if it hits you in the head, it can fuck you up.

    Live ammo.

After curfew if a white chave or nigger is on the street, you shoot them.

    Plain and simple.

Their right to protest is not in question. Their reasons may even be sound.
Their right to 'Riot' however, is non-existent. Unless they are happy to declare civil war, and deal with the consequences.
Has anyone ever thought of charging these water cannons with some sort of virulent itching powder?
Or a dye, to clearly mark out those who have been damaging property, and looting?

'Attack' by police in Manchester is probed

COPS were last night facing an official probe after a film of them "aggressively" tackling suspected looters became an internet hit.

Three youths on bicycles in Manchester were confronted by seven riot squad cops with batons.
Two managed to pedal away but one was cornered and appeared to be struck up to four times with a baton, before apparently being kicked.

Same situation as the red shirted scumbags who took over Bangkok not so long ago, do the country a big favor and shoot the lot of them while they are all together in the one place. As well as any stupid redneck farangs who support their actions, many of who contribute their garbage on this forum.

I'm just waiting for the CNN interview with Somchai Watchesporn saying how they are going to loot and burn down Dixons.

I sincerely hope the rioters in the UK are not representative of the safe democratic majority. I certainly know they haven't had their democratic vote repeatedly disenfranchised, or been been shot with live ammo for peacefully protesting. It is after that that they rose up.

I bet these dropkicks who support the reds in Thailand were "rednecks" in their own country. Would exterminate the lot of them tomorrow if I had my way. Do the world a favor.

^ Maybe I was. I was vice chair of the conservative National party in Sydney for a while during the late 80's, and given the way rightist politics have proceeded since then, especially in the USA & Thailand, the term redneck might just stick. But I didn't know that back then, and I still implacably support the peoples inalienable Right of Suffrage.

Are you one of those Sexpats that support the Yellows? Yes, I'm afraid the price of rental sex will likely rise. Perhaps you should take your sour grapes to the many Thai political threads though. It's a long way from Chile.

Sabang, I am neither a "sexpat" nor a yellow shirt supporter. I have lived in Thailand for six years and have been happily married for 5 of those years. Do you honestly believe that anyone who opposes the red shirt thugs and their evil leader in exile is a yellow shirt supporter or sex tourist ? The only thing I am guilty of is hating Takki and his stupid red shirt thugs. They must be stupid, they helped him get back into power then were dumped, wonder what they are thinking ? They are going to cause Takki more problems than the yellow shirts ever will. Karma.

When I was in the Army in N Ireland we used to put U2 batteries in instead of the rubber projectile. Probably the real reason for the head injuries.

Of course not- and do you honestly believe that everyone that supports the Red's struggle for their vote to be recognised is a "redneck" or even necessarily a Thaksin fan- I am certainly not. It was your hyperbole I was reacting to.

    Such as-
    red shirt thugs
    their evil leader

They are considering using Persil washing powder to stop the colours running.

Smartwater sprinklers and smoke clouds work well, good time to be selling security products.
