I try to not dwell on the whole thing, but venting on this forum is therapeutic.

My point is : As Farangs in Thailand, we bring money into the economy and pay for every service we receive.
However immigrants to Australia and England are often a strain on the entire infrastructure, from claiming welfare to getting freebies in housing etc, not to mention clogging up the public hospital system so much that people whose ancestors (and themselves, of course) worked and paid and struggled to build up the infrastructure, now have to wait in huge lines to get free public health care, dental care, and go to the post office or library. Not to mention actually taking jobs away from certain sectors of the workforce.....usually the marginalized, such as taxi-drivers and other unskilled workers.
But at least we HAVE free health care, unlike the USA......

^and of course if you are on a NON IMMIGRANT visa in Thailand then you're not an immigrant, hence the stress on NON in the visa status. You're simply a temporary guest with very few rights.

At a magistrates court some years ago, i watched an application from a Pakistani couple for a licence to sell alcohol from their corner shop.
He answered questions on the licensing law, then it was her turn, she stumbled at every question and her husband tried to answer on her behalf. He was told to keep quiet and let her answer. She couldnt, she had almost no English.
The magistrates ajourned the hearing, agreeing she could come back in 3 months, her lawyer suggesting further schooling in English and the law.
Just before the official ajournment one of the junior magistrates asked her how long she had been living in Britain, her answer 22 years ! Application denied.

Yes, the hypocrisy of the Pakis is really quite astounding. Most of the heroin that wasn't imported by the Turks into the UK was smuggled in by Pakis. The gangs working out of Lahore and Karachi used old folk and children arriving for settlement as mules assuming there would be less risk of losing the contraband.

Of course, nothing must besmirch the integrity of the muslim brotherhood which as we all know is as pure as the driven snow.

i went up to that bunch who were patrolling the streets
i said " excuse me, are you from pakistan ?"
a paki said yes.
I said " ah great, eh, could you sort me some heroin please
need a whore as well, can you sort me out"
It would not have looked out of place in a Monty Python scene.
They all went crazy at me.

English is being overrun as is most of the western world. The law is higher than the citizens of the country. If somehow they could figure out that by being born a citizen of a western country is actually illegal, the law would rule and all the citizens of that country would be expelled.

Really?
Walking along the road the other day in Khorat Somchai and I passed several groups of farang, none of whom were speaking Thai. Not like years ago when they were all Chinese.......
That made me chuckle.
I am not your doppelganger. It was and is such a source of hilarity to me listening to various Brits and Aussies moaning like fuck about immigrants not speaking English. But this in bars in Thailand and they themselves having been there for years and even retired on site and not even being able to read a bus route in Bangkok. Gimme a break for fuck's sake. Give them a menu in Thai?. Forget about it unless it's got pictures on it. Ask for food in Thai?. Forget about it. Try to have a conversation in Thai with a punter in the boondocks, forget about it.

At least immigrants in Blighty make an effort and don't rely on a shake and bake talking two legged dictionary to do it for them. I think it's great coming home every few years and meeting folks from all over the planet who choose to reside here. I didn't learn Thai in a week but I did learn purely as it is communication and had no desire to live in a foreign ghetto. People's descriptions of their own culture is great and for British people to complain about immigrants surely have a lesser view of history than Somchai aged 6.

Idiot. It was not. Most smack hit these shores via Brit and Dutch buyers on location and shipped commercially. The mugs (Mules) were the fall guys. And of course the ancient trade routes via the Balkans from Afghanistan and Pakistan and Turkey were nothing to do with this influx of heroin at all?. We are speaking a big time commercial business here and it appears that ignorence is bliss in your case.

The difference is that the farangs you are laughing at don't expect a Thai passport, a house, free money and health care. They're paying to be there. They are not allowed to vote one of their own in.

So in my opinion they can do what they fucking like.

This is not even a comparison worth discussing.

It is an interesting point since this is an expat forum but since all farangs are really tourists no matter how long they have been in LOS (no citizenship, no social security, no voting, no land title rights) they are not under any obligation to integrate in the way that economic migrants (refugees) are in AUS/UK/USA.

Speak Thai or don't bother, up to you.

Totally agree , but if you are living in someone elses country full time the benefits of being able to speak the language soon become very apparent.

I have friends who can't be bothered to learn as its ' too difficult ' and they are easily discouraged but its pretty easy if you study at your own pace. Even if you only learn ten words a week , at the end of the year you would have a vocabulary of 520 words which would cover the essensials.

Sounds reasonable to me. Great Britain is not some third world shite hole which requires babbling hordes of half-literate savages for its work force. Speak the Queen's English or take the first ship out.
