The WikiLeaks founder sleeps on an air mattress in a small office that has been converted to a bedroom.

...he spent his time in a back room, which gets no direct sunlight. Several weeks ago he had a bad cold and appeared depressed

"I’m worried about his health, as I would be for anybody who is having to stay indoors and not get exercise and have sunlight,” said his mommy, Christine Assange.

...friends have encouraged him to put on music and dance as a way of getting physical activity.

When the Ecuadorians sought assurances from the Swedes that they wouldn't use this case to then springboard to a third state's request for extradition the Swedes refused. He (FM) made something like 11 points - all sound - to arrive at the decision to offer asylum, with a preamble that listed UK's obligations to allow Assange and the Ecuadorians to give him asylum and take him out of the country. It was a thought-through statement. The UK will have trouble trying to find a way to respond - but you can bet the Foreign Ministry's lawyers and senior bureaucrats won't be going home tonight.
This case goes back further than that and the time for deals and offers with the Swedes long gone.

Assange had already made an agreement to show up at the Swedish Police request, he had been released and even allowed to travel on the condition he would show in Sweden when asked, but the same day they send the request to his lawyers Assange fled Sweden and has since refused and tried to dictate terms, and if you know a pissed off Swedish Justice system you would know that such endeavors is completely fruitless.

There is absolutely no fvucking way the Swedes would travel round half the world to interview a fugitive suspect who has already pissed on a deal made in Sweden, and it would most likely be illegal according to Swedish crime investigation procedure and anything achieved at such an interview deemed inadmissible in Swedish courts.

So all the other crap from Assange his lawyers and the Ecuadorians is just playacting for the press and the gullible idiots buying it, quite naturally the Ecuadorians in "Britain" is in no position to dictate anything to the Swedes, that would be like the driver of the getaway car offered to throw out one bag of loot if he was allowed to drive off with the robber and the rest of the take .

Finally let's not forget that Sweden by the way has a very good Human rights record that far exceeds anything Equador will ever reach.

Since when do a common suspect dictate terms about where in the world he wishes to make himself available for an interview after having run out on one deal already made

I made an inference to the diplomatic storm that the UK would create, if they storm the embassy, which is 100% true. Never mentioned any laws, you need to get over your hard on for me, it's really rather embarrassing.

Bingo. Nice summary. Would any citizen sit idly by as his postman stole mail from his mailbox and sold it to a shyster to disseminate to the world? Don't think so. It's criminal.

I don't for one minute think they will do that BB, they quote the British law on the subject to put pressure on the Ecuadorian Diplomatic mission in Britain, but actually storming the embassy when all they have to do is wait outside would have negative far reaching diplomatic consequences with other nations not feeling secure in Britain, so that is not going to happen for the sake of Assange IMO.

I do however agree that Willy is a untrustworthy cross forum addict gossiping old harp.

^I'm not implying they will do it, just that there is a law in place to do so if they so desire and that they have threatened to do it, but if that is the route they do decide to go down they have to give 7 days notice, lol.

Assange the weasel, just decides he can rock the world and expose National Secrets that could surely cause extreme unbalance amongst nations - just because Julian thinks thats cool.
He was accused of 2 rape charges, personally i hope he finally ends up in a max. security jail in the US. where they love pretty blonde haired meat and maybe then he will regret how he fucked up the whole security of nations worldwide and realise what rape really is.

    Crap, as usual.

Would you care to enlighten the masses as to which "law" you and the political leaders of the UK gives then the right to force entry into an embassy of a foreign government?

I have given you one example, see above, which does not; here is a second.

    "Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations
    (ratified by UK on 9/1/1964)

Article 22. The premises of a diplomatic mission, such as an embassy, are inviolate and must not be entered by the host country except by permission of the head of the mission. Furthermore, the host country must protect the mission from intrusion or damage. The host country must never search the premises, nor seize its documents or property. Article 30 extends this provision to the private residence of the diplomats."

Assange took this stolen material and spread it to the world. He has a lot to answer for. His "bombshells" repeatedly turned out to be mundane water-cooler chatter. Loser.

But this case is not about receiving stolen information. It's about running from two countries and cowardly holing up in a banana republic embassy begging for protection and assistance.

What a coward this man of courage turned out to be. And what incompetent police forces Britain and Sweden have proven themselves in this case.

Sounds a little like the Chines guy who ran off to another banana republic's embassy earlier this year. That time it was to the failed state US embassy.

Ecuador grants asylum to WikiLeaks' Assange

Ecuador grants asylum to WikiLeaks' Assange

Wanted man ... the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Photo: AFP

THE Ecuadorian government last night announced it would grant the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange political asylum.

But within minutes of the announcement the British government issued a statement saying the decision does not change its "binding obligation" to extradite him to Sweden.

The South American country's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ricardo Patino, told a news conference in Quito that should Assange be extradited from Britain to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning about allegations of rape and sexual assault, there was a "clear possibility" he could then be transferred to a third country.

Assange says he fears deportation from Sweden to the US, which might seek to convict him for his website's release of secret official documents.

The evidence "backs up Julian Assange's fears that he is a victim of political persecution as a result of his determined defense for freedom of expression and a free press," Mr Patino said.

"The Ecuadorian government, loyal to its tradition to protect those who seek refuge with us have decided to grant diplomatic asylum to Mr Assange ... because of the fears expressed by Mr Assange. We believe that his fears are legitimate."

Explaining Ecuador's decision, Mr Patino said that if Assange were extradited to the US, "he would not face a fair trial".

He added: "He could face a military trial or a special trial ... he could face the death penalty."

Mr Patino gave details about the months of talks Ecuador had with the US, Britain and Sweden over Assange's fate.

He said the Swedish and British governments had refused to give a guarantee that Assange would not be extradited to a third country.

Mr Patino was also scathing of the British government's threat to arrest Assange while he remained in Ecuador's London embassy.

"It's basically saying we are going to beat you savagely if you don't behave," he said.

Britain has told Ecuador that under the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987 it has the power to rescind the diplomatic status of the embassy, thereby allowing British police to enter and arrest Assange for breaching his bail. It is not clear if the act has been used before in this way.

A WikiLeaks statement said: "Any transgression against the sanctity of the embassy is a unilateral and shameful act."

But the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued a statement saying it was disappointed with Ecuador's decision.

"Under our law, with Mr Assange having exhausted all options of appeal, UK authorities are under binding obligation to extradite him to Sweden. We shall carry out that obligation. The Ecuadorian government's decision ... does not change that."

The Swedish Prosecution Authority released a statement saying the case was still a matter for British authorities.

Well done to assange to in outing the despicable hypocrisy of these 2 so called defenders of freedom.

They should be giving this guy a medal of honour.

And what the fcuck does that imbercile schoolboy willy think he is up to by denying the guy safe passage, are they handing out threats and intimidation and putting out a contract on him.

    You can't argue with that

Your lack of comprehension is disturbingly poor. I am not denying the guy anything and I certainly have nothing to do with what is happening in UK.

By they, do you mean the Brit government? If so, what's this business about contracts? You've been smoking too much hashish while watching James Bond movies I think. They only plan to arrest and extradite him, that's all.
