ON PATROL: David Hasselhoff will fly into New Zealand to promote a new icecream.

Knight Rider and Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is coming to New Zealand next week to promote a new ice-cream.

The international celebrity who inspired the saying "don't hassle the Hoff" is heading to Mount Maunganui's main beach on January 6 to promote a new Streets ice-block.

The Bay of Plenty Times reports the Mount Maunganui Surf Life Saving Club has been paid a fee to host Hasselhoff, and will offer uniformed lifeguards as security. The club plans to take advantage of the 3000-strong crowd expected by fundraising with a bucket collection.

Hasselhoff, who played lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in the 1990s phenomenon Baywatch, has a cult following in Germany for his pop career, and has appeared in pantomimes in London.

Oz got Oprah . . . Kiwis get 'the Hoff'
"Don't hassle The Hoff!" was David Hasselhoff's message for fans when he arrived on Bondi beach this afternoon.

After arriving last night, his Bondi visit marks the first in a series of PR engagements for the star, culminating in a VIP party tomorrow evening.

Aided by a troop of models in red bikinis – the Knight Rider actor threw out the ice blocks to awestruck beach-goers, most of which did not know about his appearance on the iconic strip.

When quizzed about his favourite thing about Australia, the perennial ladies man quipped, "The two things that are walking next to me" referring to the swimsuit-clad models next to him.

And when questioned about the origins of his now infamous nickname, 'The Hoff', the TV icon was quick to cite Australia - in fact The Daily Telegraph - as the source of his now ubiquitous title

Speaking exclusively to Confidential, he said: "The Hoff action stared here and now, wherever I go, I'm no longer David Hasselhoff, I'm 'The Hoff'. So my message is - don't hassle The Hoff!"

Two people, as far as the Daily Telegraph could see on the ground, waited with Baywatch DVD box sets to get autographs.

The Hoff happily obliged, while grooving the show’s theme song , I’ll Be Ready.

Hasselhoff is in Sydney as part of a lucrative sponsorship contract to promote Splice ice lollies.

'The Hoff' makes surprise appearance at SCG

DAVID "The Hoff" Hasselhoff made a surprise appearance at the cricket in Sydney today, even facing up to retired Australian leg-spinning great Shane Warne. A day after the former "Baywatch" star pulled on his famous red swimming shorts to stride among beautiful women in figure-hugging swimsuits at Bondi Beach, Hasselhoff was batting against Warne at the Sydney Cricket Ground, and even got a couple big shots away.
"That's about the first time I've ever hit. I tried it once in London but I couldn't do it all," Hasselhoff told Warne in an interview for the Nine Network during the broadcast of the fifth Ashes Test between Australia and England.

Is the Hoff running out of money or something?
Anyway, next time tell him he got off the plane at the wrong stop.
Babewatch- the Hoff and Pamela Anderson. Paris Hilton was too young.
And we wonder why the US is in crisis.

    David Hasselhoff hits the beach

David Hasselhoff knows how to make an entrance.

"The Hoff'' donned his famous red togs and braved choppy seas for his arrival at Mt Maunganui on an inflatable rescue boat this morning.

His true Baywatch-style landing was watched by thousands of locals and holidaymakers who turned out despite unseasonal weather to greet the 1980s TV star and some time crooner.

Security guards and lifeguards had a tough time keeping the fans under control as they rushed to catch a glimpse of "The Hoff", who is in New Zealand as part of a brief promotional visit for a new ice cream.

Crowds of children were pushed along the beach, desperate to capture an elusive photo of the man himself.

Local fan Renee Pilkinton-Bonds made a sign which was taken off her and waved behind the star as he waded through the water.

The long-time fan and her family got a special one-on-one meeting with Hasselhoff after the crowds parted, where he thanked them for their sign.

She said it was "primo" he was in the Mount.

Along with the throng of eager fans, he was greeted by "Splice Savers" - brand ambassadors for the new ice cream - decked out in traditional Baywatch togs.

Hasselhoff told the crowd he was happy to be in New Zealand.

"Kia Ora. We're here to have a little fun - don't be shy."

Hasselhoff has spent the past week in Australia making similar beach-side appearances.

He said this was by far the biggest response he'd had so far. He returns to Auckland for a VIP reception tonight before flying out tomorrow.
