Assange named Le Monde Man of the Year

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been named "Man of the Year" by French newspaper Le Monde.
The newspaper is one of five publications to cooperate with the whistleblowing website on its its latest release of leaked documents. The newspaper officially named Mr Assange in a weekly supplement magazine due out today.
Fifty-six per cent of voters on the newspaper's website voted in favour of Assange, while jailed Chinese dissident and Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo received 22 per cent.
Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg received just 6.9 per cent of the vote a week after Time magazine announced him as its "Person of the Year".
Meanwhile, Mr Assange says he and other individuals should not be held to the same standard of accountability as his website levels at governments and officials.
Mr Assange says transparency is for governments not individuals.
He made the comment in an interview published by a Brazilian newspaper when responding to press revelations about the sexual assault case against him in Sweden.
Mr Assange also accused Britain's Guardian newspaper of being manipulated and improperly publishing details of the case.

^I don't know, Herman. I have forced myself to read some of these leaked cables, and fail to see much of any significance at all. For this guy, and the Facebook guy, to get some kind of 'recognition' just shows what a sad state of affairs the world is in.

Palin garners a 21% response with President Barack Obama claiming 16% for person of the year, and Glenn Beck tied with Julian Assange with 13%. President Obama only pulled 8% of the Independent vote. Former President George W. Bush pulls in 44% of the respondents for Person of the Decade. President Obama comes in second with 20% and Osama Bin Laden garners 11%. Zogby International

I wonder what Julian thought would happen to him after his 'Revelations' were published? Is he naive enough to think the Yanks would just take it lying down?

Another way of looking at it is... were the Yanks naive enough to think they could continue to get away with pulling the strings of governments worldwide forever and a day?

This could very well open a can of worms that may just prove Assange to be a little smarter than the Yanks gave him credit for.

May God also bless "fucken idiots" like you too !

Sarah Palin: ‘God Bless You Tea Partiers’

George Bush: May God bless you all, and may God continue to bless America.

Obama 2010: Thank you. May God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America, and all who serve her.

Of course Davis, you are absolutely right. The leaked cables are not realy shocking news. We are all humans and bound to make mistakes. Some people have not kept their closet shut and have to face the consequence. At a certain position you have to pay for your mistakes harder then others.
The U.S. should just realize that they made a big booh booh. They should shut up, keep a low profile and make sure that these things don't happen again. But instead they go into the offensive (like always) and make this Assange a hero or Man of the Year. America not Le Monde is made Assange "Man of the Year".
Maybe we need more Wikileaks ? Because like you said: "what a sad state of affairs the world is". Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is a new fine example. And so are a lot of other foreign politicians (not only the U.S.)
