Anyone whose ever been to Qatar will be laughing at this insult to football.
Giving it to Russia is a far bigger insult in my book.

Qatar will do a fantastic job because they aren't out to make a profit out of it.

You only have to look at the Formula One races in the Gulf. The tracks and organisation are superb, because they don't cut corners to save a few quid.

^Qatar has a population of around 200,000 only about 25,000 are Qataris. There's only one town to speak of Doha which has been built up from an old fishing village, so where do they intend to hold the group stages? Will they build stadiums at a fixed distance from each other in the desert and bus in their Pakistani indentured slaves to act as a crowd?

Don't bother expecting a drink before the game. When I was there there were 4 licensed bars, three in hotels and one was the rugby club.

When will they hold this? The temperatures in August are in the 50's that's centigrade not farenheit. You need to carry a liter of water just to cross the road without suffering dehydration.

Could be fun though, pissed off supporters punching out the arabs who try to push past them in the airport check in queues, something I was always tempted to do.

This is a $$$ decision nothing to do with football.

    England should have got it.

    As should the US.

But as Blatter and his FIFA colleagues are as corrupt as the come, money won. A pity really.

    Britain diminished...LOL

    Really?

Because we didn't get the World Cup.

Hmmm, Okay....I think the headline might be a little bit over the top....just maybe....

I'm more interested in how much the Russians and Arabs stumped up. As it seems to be that football nowadays is riddled with corruption.

America also failed in its bid....where's the misleading headline about that I wonder...?

Because of a Taxsystem that benefits the players salary. England bankrupt vs foreign players millionaires. Are you realy proud ? WM 2006 was bigger and better.

no where in the world compete's with England !
Get off your horse, Jeeeezuz !!! Watch the wedding next year. WM2006 was one of the best.

I cannot believe that dirty Russian money has not been at play here,If there was an ideal candidate after England then it would have been Spain.Same goes for the arab Country for 2022 !
    Who owns Englands Clubs ??

If it was about fairness then Australia would have won this bid,I cannot believe that an Arab country would welcome over a million farangs all aiming to get pissed out that face all day ! Can see a few spending time in prison for very minor crimes !

Its not easy competing with Weaky Leaks. And with these Teakdoor Geezers running away to the competition, you need a headline puncher. To get their adreline flow going.

FIFA strategy is to expand it's Empire which in turn expands it's revenues. Not much of a secret when one looks at recent World Cup winners, South Africa and now Russia and Qatar. Early on in the process both countries were considered front runners in the competition simply because both fit nicely into FIFA strategy of expansion.

Best existing facilities and fan base clearly not a consideration to determine "best" offer in the view of FIFA.

Choosing Russia and Qatar does have an element of risk but no doubt both will spare no expense at getting it right. As with South Africa, it's a matter of national pride.

Indeed, if it had it could have challenged the Spitfire or the more successful yet less credited Hurricane or even the P-51 Mustang which thanks to the Merlin engine shot down numerous German fighters during WWII.

    Absolutely riddled with inaccuracies.

The population is over 1.5M, with probably 5-600,000 Qataris.

There are licensed bars and restaurants all over; the Qataris have said there will be public drinking available in Fan Zones - they wouldn't have got it otherwise due to Sponsor pressure.

They host Moto GP, ATP Tennis, Tour Golf and they've spent a fortune on the Asian Games.

They will have air-conditioned stadia, all with an hour of each other, and they demonstrated one to the organisers (do you think they didn't know it's fucking hot in the Gulf in the summer FFS?).

They'll have to build a few more hotels, and they'll probably hire some cruise ships like Moscow did for the Champions League final.

They are more than capable of hosting the tournament, and will throw money at it. Add to this the fact that FIFA's team will already be making arrangements to put a project team in place to supervise the whole thing - they've had plenty of practice.

Who was president when you were last in Doha? Nixon?

Well I did work there for three years, so I bow to you better informed opinions.

There were only 25,000 Qataris back in 2004 and the population was 200,000 most of the rest being Pakistani labourers. I do know they were importing Yemenis and calling them Qataris plus the average family (all on benefits had at least 10 kids) so it's not beyond reason that they could have increased their population somewhat.

Those photos prove the Qataris should host the World Cup. Spectacular.

To Hell with proper, devoted football fans from nations that have a huge supporter base and are more capable and deserving than some Middle-Eastern backwater without enough cities to host semi-finals let alone group stages.

Qatar, with its pub standard domestic league and absolutely no tradition of playing the beautiful game, coupled with a minnow international team that has never qualified for the World Cup, are surely deserving of hosting this prestigious event.

    It is their turn.

wow if Quatar only has a pub standard league, that puts australia in the boys club leagueaustralia has not got the facilities and they have no idea how to care for a pitch, the large cities have some decent stadiums but the pitches are like a ploughed field after a couple of games,as a welshman living in aus my only memories of decent soccer, were watching Klaus Fischer ,stan libuda, little fat gerd muller, netzer ,hoeness play football in the bundesliga in the 70,s world cup should have gone not to germany but to SCHALKE )$

    Nostradamus,

I'm not disputing Qatar should not have the tournament. I'm merely pointing out that they are more than capable of hosting it. Probably more than the Russkies.

The English bid team are saying they went to bed with lots of people having told them they'd get their vote. But they refuse to name them.

15 million quid down the toilet then.

Look at the back page of the Bangkok Post on the day of the match. They will probably show these matches on Thai TV.
