Hawaii Five-O's 'book him Dano' dies at 72

Hawaii Five-O star James MacArthur dies at 72

    By Daily Mail Reporter

James MacArthur, the star of 1970's TV show Hawaii Five-0, died today at age 72.
MacArthur had a long and prolific career in stage, film and television, and played Danny 'Danno' Williams on Hawaii Five-0.

He also starred in films such as Swiss Family Robinson, Battle of the Bulge, Kidnapped, The Bedford Incident, and Hang 'Em High.

RIP: James MacArthur has died at the age of 72. He is pictured here holding a photo from the late 1940s of himself as a child with his mother and Bob Hope

Born in Los Angeles, California, MacArthur was adopted as an infant by Charles MacArthur and Helen Hayes.

He grew up in Nyack, New York, and attended Allen-Stevenson School in New York, and later at The Solebury School in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he played basketball, football, and baseball.

MacArthur was a popular and athletic student at Solebury - during his last year at the school he played guard on the football team and captained the basketball team.
He was also president of his class, the student government, and the Drama Club; he rewrote the school's constitution and edited the school paper, The Scribe, and started acting early on by playing Scrooge in a local presentation of A Christmas Carol.

It was around this time that MacArthur started seeing fellow student, Joyce Bulifant. The couple were married in November 1958 but divorced nine years later.
Luckily for the actor, he had a solid social and family circle of literary and theatrical talent.

His godmother was legendary silent film actress Lillian Gish, and family friends included Ben Hecht, Harpo Marx, Robert Benchley, Beatrice Lillie, John Barrymore, and John Steinbeck.

He starred on Hawaii Five-0 for 11 years in total, from the first episode of it's 12-year run, leaving the show at the end of the eleventh season.

MacArthur then returned to his first love of theatre, appearing in The Lunch Hour with Cybill Shepherd.

The actor has guest starred on many TV shows including The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote, The Adventures of Superboy, Vegas, Fantasy Island, Bonanza, Tarzan, Gunsmoke, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and Climax!.
His last role was in the 1998 TV movie Storm Chasers: Revenge of the Twister.

McArthur was married to his second wife, Helen Beth for over 25 years, and they have four children and seven grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Nyack, New York; Palm Desert, Calif; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Never really watched it but liked Steve's Hawaiian shirts.

In fact there is a member here who still wears these typs of shirts today and I always start whistling the Hawaii Five-O theme as he walks up my driveway.

Been watching it on downloaded torrents. Not bad. Has the added benefit of showing Grace Park in as few clothes as possible each episode.

And its predecesor "77 Sunset Strip".

I remember walking Sunset Stip 12 years back in LA, but no sign of 77.

I saw the original series on Truely Bad the other nite. Interesting thing about TV and mass distribution , Jack Lord who once loked like an cold man to me now is almost boyish.
I notice this with Star Trek Movies , too

Also saw re was a spot about the theme music for the new movie, the opening piece is a tremendous composition and they want to keep it close to original as possible.

BOO BOO BOO Boom BA, Boo Boo Boom BOOM , Boo Boo Boom BOOM BAAA < BAA BAA BAA BA BOOM .

Hence it has been re-recorded by some of the original orchestra.
