Base jumper killed after leaping off waterfall in Wallaman Falls, near Ingham

A BASE jumper has died after leaping off the top of a waterfall in north Queensland.

Police said they received a call about 8.50am (AEST) today that a man had died after attempting a base jump from Wallaman Falls, near Ingham.

Wallaman Falls is the largest single drop waterfall in Australia, tumbling 305 metres through the Wet Tropics World Heritage area.

Attempts were being made to recover the man's body.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service teams are assisting police, but there are doubts the body can be recovered before tomorrow, due in part to the weather.
