passengers WILL have to pay to use the toilet

Ryanair hikes luggage charges for summer (and passengers WILL have to pay to use the toilet too)

New charges: The £15 fee for checked-in bags will be raised to £20 for the summer (file photo)

Ryanair is taking no-frills flights to new heights - by charging for lavatories.
All onboard toilets will become coin-operated, forcing passengers to pay £1 or one euro.
The Irish airline is also cutting the number of loos, meaning there may be only one on planes carrying 189 passengers.
It already charges customers to check in luggage, for online check-in, for onboard snacks and for credit card payments.
Ryanair's Stephen McNamara said: 'By charging for the toilets we are hoping to change passenger behaviour so that they use the bathroom before or after the flight.
'That will enable us to remove two out of three of the toilets and make way for at least six extra seats.'
The airline mooted the idea of toilet charges last year but backtracked after criticism.
It also emerged yesterday that its single bag check-in charge will rise from £15 to £20 during the summer holidays.

The £15 fee for checked-in bags will be in operation again from September.

Mr McNamara said: 'We are determined to incentivise passengers to travel light this summer by increasing our checked-in baggage fees for the months of July and August only.

'Over 70 per cent of all Ryanair passengers will be unaffected by these changes because they travel with no checked-in bags.'
More charges: Spending a penny could soon cost a pound

Rochelle Turner, head of research for Which? magazine, said: 'Ryanair might claim that they are incentivising people to travel light but we think it is more a case of penalising those families who can only go away on holiday during this time.
'Flying with Ryanair is not as cheap as it first appears and we would advise passengers to factor in these extra costs when choosing who to fly with.'
Mr O'Leary first suggested the toilet charges last year but the budget carrier appeared to backtrack on the idea.

However, the airline has confirmed its plans in its latest in-flight magazine, although Mr McNamara said the charges would not be coming in this summer.
Sky high prices: Snacks on no-frills flights can cost nearly quadruple what they would cost in the supermarket

The confirmation of further charges on board comes just as a new survey has shown that low-cost carriers are charging sky-high prices for food and drink.
Passengers pay 374 per cent more for snacks on flights than they would at the supermarket, according to statistics from price comparison site travelsupermarket.com.

When asked about the price of food on board Ryanair aircraft, Mr McNamara said: 'I would like to know how much Tesco are charging for flights from Barcelona to London.'

A buck-and-a-half to take a squirt- outrageous- it's not like you're adding any additional weight to the plane.

They'll probably start serving (selling) expired, diarrhea-inducing snacks to up their profit margin.

guaranteed, there will be lots of piss filled water bottles to clear up when the planes land.

charging to use the toilets is an in your face challenge to a certain type of passenger to find a way round paying this ridiculous charge.

I hope they anger enough people that it hurts their business. Raising fares may be needed and appropriate, but free restrooms should be mandated by law if necessary. I would not fly this airline as a matter of principal.

I've used ryanair to fly from my local airport in UK to Girona, Spain a dozen or so times. Fares are often around 50 quid including taxes etc. BA usually be 3 or 4 times that plus 4X the cost of parking at Heathrow. At busy times when Ryanair were charging 150 quid - BA were looking at 500+.
Ryanair service is shit, but you get what you pay for. When you see the typical Ryanair passenger it surprises me they can even be arsed to walk to the loo for a piss when it's free. There will be alot of pissing in bottles.

Soap Dodger 10 up, 1 down
buy soap dodger mugs, tshirts and magnets
A slang term for people from England. During the early to mid 20th century the english were famous for only washing once a year. The English considered bathing to be bad for the health. Hence the expression that they were adept at dodging the soap.
Hide the cutlery Sheila, I smell a soap dodger approaching.

    Urban Dictionary: soap dodger

This is of course a total bollocks story.
They just let out a load of crap every couple of months, the press lap it up so the airline get a pile of free publicity.

The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.
Michael O Leary clearly reads Wilde.

well, they could also charge for changing to the toilette coins and for a upper place on the toilet's waiting list and for the paper, the light, washing hands, flushing calculated by the weight of your...and finally for reopening the toilette's door.

    yes sir, that makes 13,50

Budget airline Ryanair has been criticised by a business watchdog for being "puerile" and "childish" over parts of its charging policy.

Ryanair Blasted By OFT Over Website Costs

    8:42am UK, Monday January 04, 2010
By James Jordan, Sky News Online
Budget airline Ryanair has been criticised by a business watchdog for being "puerile" and "childish" over parts of its charging policy.

Ryanair defends the policies and says travellers can still avoid costs

Office of Fair Trading chief executive John Fingleton attacks the company for fees that can be added when customers pay by card online.
In an interview in The Independent newspaper, he also questions the automatic addition of insurance to flights, unless customers opt out, calling it a legal "grey area".
The paper says Ryanair advertises taxes and other fees upfront but only mentions charges for paying by plastic at the end of booking, on the grounds that customers could escape the fee by using an obscure prepaid card

Ryanair is not for the overpaid John Fingletons on this world but for the everyday Joe Bloggs
Stephen McNamara, Ryanair Head of Communications

Mr Fingleton says: "Ryanair has this funny game where they have found some very low frequency payment mechanism and say: 'Well because you can pay with that (the charge is optional)'," he said.
"It's almost like taunting consumers. On some level it's quite puerile, it's almost childish."
Earlier this year, following OFT intervention, Ryanair promised to take steps to increase the clarity and transparency of its website and other advertising.
Ryanair Head of Communications Stephen McNamara said: "Ryanair is not for the overpaid John Fingletons of this world but for the everyday Joe Bloggs who opt for Ryanair's guaranteed lowest fares because we give them the opportunity to fly across 26 European countries for free, £5 and £10.
"What the OFT must realise is that passengers prefer Ryanair's model, as it allows them to avoid costs, such as baggage charges, which are still included in the high fares of high-cost, fuel-surcharging, strike-threatened airlines such as BA."
