    John Terrys Gik keeping schtum

As Max Clifford does the talking, has John Terry bought his lover's silence?

    By Michael Seamark
Last updated at 1:27 PM on 06th February 2010

The offers enticing her to kiss and tell had reputedly reached £250,000 but the only audible words from Vanessa Perroncel yesterday came via the mouth of Max Clifford.
In a bizarre press conference, the French lingerie model whose torrid affair with John Terry sparked his downfall stood mute at her publicist's side as HE explained why SHE wasn't selling her story.

The only sign of animation from Miss Perroncel came as she heard TV news reports that her former lover had been sacked as England captain. She shook her head and mouthed: 'Oh my God'.

It was the one visible reaction from the estranged partner of Terry's former teammate Wayne Bridge during her brief performance before the TV cameras.

No kiss and tell: Eyes closed, Vanessa Perroncel listens as Max Clifford reads out her statement

In a blue-and-black top and black cardigan, a pendant hanging from her neck, petite Miss Perroncel looked the picture of innocence. Her eyes occasionally closing, she listened intently as Mr Clifford read a statement on her behalf.

In his Mayfair office, the PR supremo and arch media manipulator explained why his client had decided not to cash in on her notoriety. She was keeping quiet, said Mr Clifford, for the sake of her three-year-old son by Bridge. There was no mention of the abortion for which Terry allegedly paid during their five-month affair, nor talk of a reputed £450,000 offered to Miss Perroncel by the Chelsea star to buy her silence.

Nor was there any direct reference to suggestions that she had affairs with a string of Chelsea footballers.

Instead, in his best statesmanlike voice - and showing not a hint of resentment that there would be no lucrative percentage for selling her story - the publicist read her words for the cameras.

Mr Clifford read out the statement in a room plastered with newspaper front pages involving previous clients - a testament to his expertise as master of the kiss-and-tell industry. Through him, Miss Perroncel said: 'In recent days I have been the centre of a great deal of press speculation and comment.

'I would like to put on record my thanks to Max Clifford for his advice and help at this difficult time. The details of my friendship with John and his family have been the subject of intense and wholly unfair and untrue media speculation.

'As Max has already said, much of the material in the press is inaccurate. I now find myself subject to other unsubstantiated and false claims which have appeared in the papers over the past few days.

'This has only added to the pressure which my family and I have been under.

'The media has sought to pore over my private life and that of my family, which is very upsetting.

'I have decided I do not want to speak publicly about the speculation since it only seems to add more fuel to the fire. I have a three-year-old son and he is my main concern.

'I do not believe speaking to newspapers or the media is in his interest or my own. I do not wish to add anything more to what I have said.'

In the only unscripted part of the afternoon, reacting to the news of Terry's sacking, Mr Clifford said: 'Vanessa would also like to add that she finds it very sad that John Terry has been dropped as England captain.'

i'd rather have a phlebotomy than a full frontal lobotomy

Archbishop of Canterbury condemns John Terry adultery

The Archbishop of Canterbury spoke yesterday at a conference at Church House. Afterwards a young journalist, Sergei Blair, an intern with Religious Intelligence, asked him about John Terry. The Archbishop said: 'Clearly, a lot of people think there isn't a problem there and that’s a pity because adultery is adultery. It’s a shame that we lost that sense that faithfulness matters. I’d like to see it back.'

In one way it really must totally suck to be famous. Tons of girls throw themselves at you. And tons of paparazzi are at the ready to tell everyone about it the next day.

My verdict depends entirely on when this affair started, and whether JT followed the gentleman's code of conduct regarding ex-girlfriends of friends - I think he didn't which makes him a weasel.

    - If dating an ex-girlfriend of your mate, you must ask his permission
    - You mate must grant said permission

If she was still technically together as far as Bridge was concerned then Terry is just a full blown idiot. All those balls to the head...

Why is that gay? Do real men just throw on the first thing they see lying around after getting up?

I am pretty sure it's a very expensive designer jacket made purposely to look like something a hobo just found in the trash.

Nah, the freaking team captain needs to stay away from the girls of his team-mates. No team spirit, no success. Amongst the millions of girls you could have... really way to go JT, that was just plain dumb.

Look, as I understand it, false morality has little importance in modern sport. John's yer captain or no, I don't care. I'd just like the team to live up to it's top billing for once.

OK, it's all a done deal now, but I'm still slightly confused by the time line, i.e. when said lady and Wayne Bridges split up (some reports suggest December 09), when again said lady and JT (John Thomas????) commenced nuptial rehearsals (to say nothing of the pregnancy/termination/5 a side allegations that are floating around).

In the bigger picture, none of this is important to football in general and England in particular, though I suspect there is more than a little angst being generated within the JT family, and his in-laws.

John Terry: how too much money turns footballers into greedy toddlers

By Tim Collard Celebrities Last updated: February 6th, 2010
7 Comments Comment on this article

So, farewell then, John Terry. His ultimate fate was never in question; it only remained to see whether he possessed that vestigial fraction of nous necessary to go before he was pushed. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t. The sex stuff itself he might have survived; the lack of direct relevance to his capacity to play football and lead footballers, plus the copious evidence that most footballers behave in much the same way, could have tipped the scales. But combined with allegations that someone hired out his personal Wembley box for the odd few grand and other tales of spivvery, he was clearly toast.
Never mind the inability to keep it in his trousers; he who is without sin etc., and it isn’t me. Why a man on seven and a half million a year needs to scrabble around for more dosh is even more mysterious. But for me the real key to the man was shown by an article by Alison Kervin in the Times on Tuesday. In it she tells how she once saw him in a Lebanese restaurant with his wife, ordering a burger and chips. Repeatedly he was told that Lebanese restaurants do not serve burgers and chips, nor do they usually possess the appropriate equipment. But no, Johnny wanted his burger and chips. In the end the chef was summoned, and turned out to be a Chelsea fan, and all was “sorted”. (Presumably the chef sent a minion across the road to Mickey D’s.)
I can understand a simple bloke wanting simple food. But why go to a Lebanese restaurant for it? We know, of course; when you’ve got that much money you expect people to adapt to you and not vice versa. Yes, it proves that Terry is a bit of an oaf. But that’s nothing strange in his profession; nor do we need a Renaissance Man for the purpose of marshalling the England back four. But what occurred to me was that I’ve seen this attitude before. And I’m pretty certain that my children had grown out of it by the time they were four years old.
Do we want an England captain who commits adultery? Arguably an irrelevant question. Do we want an England captain with a mental age of three, however? That’s nearer the mark. Many comments have been made to the effect that Bobby Moore did not behave like this. But Bobby Moore wasn’t being paid £150,000 a week.
We talk about the necessity of paying star footballers and star bankers this sort of money; no one ever asks whether we want either football or finance run by people who are given every encouragement to behave like toddlers let loose in a sweet shop. It’s not just the unfairness of inadequately taxed monumental salaries which does the damage; it’s their inherent undesirability.

    John Terry’s ‘£750,000’ legal gag

    OIiver Kay and Maurice Chittenden

    Recommend? (6)

John Terry paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to his former mistress to guarantee her silence in his bid to remain England’s football captain.
Insiders say Terry, 29, was confident of keeping his captain’s armband after agreeing to pay Vanessa Perroncel, 33, the French underwear model, to stop her speaking out.
The exact sum is disputed: friends of Perroncel say it was £750,000 while friends of Terry claim the sum was £400,000.
The settlement led Perroncel to attend a press conference on Friday in which Max Clifford, her publicist, declared that, despite six-figure offers, she would not be selling her story to a Sunday newspaper.

A DEVASTATED ex-love of England star Wayne Bridge today tells how the Man City defender dumped her for "gold digger" Vanessa Perroncel.

Model Sam Ramplin was sure she had a future with Bridge - introducing him to her two young children and letting him stay nights at her Essex home.
But her dreams were shattered when she saw press pictures of him romping on a beach with a topless Vanessa.
"I was very upset and very angry. And now I know for sure what kind of woman she is, I am even more angry," she said
"She is an absolute gold digger. She got together with Wayne and had a baby with him after a very short relationship.
"Then she moved on to his married best friend John Terry - nice!"
Sam, now a presenter on Sky's Angels TV, added: "Throughout all this, she hasn't shown any remorse whatsoever and certainly no feelings - not for Wayne, not for John Terry's wife, not for their children and not even for her own child with Wayne.
"Maybe Wayne and I would have stayed together if it wasn't for her."
Sam met Bridge, 29, in an Essex nightclub in 2004 when he was out with none other that his then Chelsea team-mate John Terry.
    ROMP : Samantha

Over the next months, they would go clubbing at weekends, spending nights in Chelsea's upmarket Conrad Hotel.
Sam, 36, said: "John Terry was always out clubbing with us. He and Wayne were inseparable, the best of friends."
Then after six months, Bridge cut her dead, breaking off the romance with no explanation.
Just weeks later, he was with Vanessa. And Page Three girl Sam is still furious about the way she was treated. "Wayne is being portrayed as a little angel in this scandal but he's really not like that at all," she insisted.
"As far as I'm concerned he is just as thoughtless and selfish as John Terry and treats those who love him just as badly.
"I loved Wayne very much but he picked me up and when he tired of me he cut me off without a second thought."
She added: "He just blanked me and left me feeling hurt and confused. It was very cruel."
Then she saw the pictures in a newspaper of Wayne in Marbella with Vanessa. She said: "I was gutted - gutted that Wayne never had the decency to tell me there was another woman involved.
"For me, it was a brutal betrayal.
"And I know it sounds silly, but it also hurt me terribly that he had taken her away on holiday because the whole time we were together, he had never once done anything like that with me, never even bought me a gift."
Bridge also refused to invite her to his home in Surrey, but was happy to spend the night with her at the Essex home she shared with her two children.
"I had told Wayne about my kids after a few dates. He was a bit taken aback at first but then he seemed cool with it.
"He'd come round, we'd just be a regular couple."
Now in a new relationship, Sam has forgiven Bridge.
"I do feel for Wayne but I hope that this hurtful thing that has happened to him has taught him to treat others better himself."

Vanessa was so lonely and sad.. JT's visits cheered her up
    By Kate Mansey 7/02/2010
JOHN TERRY, LOVE CHEAT THE LOVER'S STORY

For the past eight days, the delicately beautiful features of Vanessa Perroncel have stared out from the front pages on every newsstand across the land.
Overnight she has become a household name, the woman at the swirling, dizzying centre of the John Terry sex scandal.
Now, for the first time, her story can be told - by two women who have been at her side constantly since the extraordinary story broke of her affair with sacked England captain Terry.
Vanessa's friends Antonia Graham and Nadean Moses reveal today how the fourmonth fling began as Terry played cupid to her and boyfriend Wayne Bridge, Terry's best pal and England teammate.
We can reveal Terry phoned Vanessa, 33, last July as she and Wayne were splitting - and pledged his help to get them reunited, insisting they were a "great couple".
"John was playing the caring friend," says Antonia, 29. "He called Vanessa up. Vanessa told me, 'John is being the peacemaker. He said Wayne and I are great together'."
Antonia added: "Vanessa was sad and lonely, she loved Wayne and still does. She thought Wayne was the one and she never thought they would ever split.
"John said he wanted to help - and she took him on his word because he was Wayne's best friend. It cheered her up because she was alone. She thought John wanted to get them back together."
Vanessa and Wayne, who have a threeyear-old son Jaydon, lived in a suite in the five-star Lowry Hotel in Salford for six months after Wayne's £10million transfer to Manchester City from Chelsea in January last year, we can reveal.
By July, after six months of trying to find a suitable home in the North-West and with their relationship beginning to crack, Vanessa returned to Oxshott, Surrey, where Terry and his long-suffering wife Toni, 28, are her near-neighbours. Then, Antonia and Nadean say, just a fortnight later the £170,000-a-week Chelsea skipper made the first of his clandestine trips to Vanessa's home to offer his "comfort and support" as Vanessa struggled with the break-up.
And it wasn't long before Terry had seduced lonely Vanessa and began a passionate four-month relationship with the woman who until so recently had been his best friend's partner.
"He would pop round a couple of times a week, offering a shoulder to cry on," says Nadean, 32, who has known Vanessa for eight years. "He brought DVDs for her son."
Cynics would suggest the "good neighbour" was keen for little Jaydon to be as occupied as possible during his regular visits.
To go undetected he would text Vanessa before he arrived so she could open the security gates in front of her and Wayne's home.
Then he would glide up the drive in his Bentley or Range Rover, each with blacked out windows, and carefully park out of sight.
And here, with photos of his best friend staring down from the wall, Terry and Vanessa would talk for hours over tea in the kitchen - before their relationship moved into the bedroom.
Careful to shield her son from the affair, she and Terry were ever cautious of not being seen outside the house together, with no goodbye kisses on the doorstep.
Nadean and Antonia are adamant that the femme fatale image of Vanessa in some quarters could not be further from the truth. They say she has lost half a stone, unable to eat or sleep since news of the affair broke when Terry's heavy-handed lawyers went to court to try and keep it quiet but ended up actually alerting the media to it.
All the problems date back to Wayne's transfer, says Antonia. "Footballers are away a lot of the time and she felt a bit isolated. Soon the distance came between them while she was back home and he was away and there were lots of reasons why their relationship ended. Vanessa put her whole life into that relationship with Wayne. She was devastated when they split."
Around September the secret lovers knew the relationship was getting more and more intense. Then Vanessa was devastated to learn she was pregnant with father-of-two Terry's child in October.
Antonia said: "Vanessa is a very good mother and she would only want to have a baby with someone who she was serious about. She didn't want a child to be brought up with two separate parents as she was."
Vanessa knew she was getting further and further from a reunion with Wayne and was deeply regretting their split. Antonia says: "She realised how much she was missing Wayne - she was alone with Jaydon in her house on Christmas Day."
Terry, of course, was playing happy families with Toni, his sweetheart since they were teenagers, and their twins Georgie John and Summer Rose.
"Vanessa told me she would rather stay single forever if she couldn't have Wayne back," says Antonia.
By this time her fling with Terry was over but the damage was done. Rumours were circulating in the dressing rooms of English football. Wayne confronted Terry about them, only for Terry - sacked as England captain on Friday - to lie that nothing was going on.

Terry's advisers visited her to ask her to sign a confidentiality form saying she would not speak about any private matters between the pair of them.
Antonia said: "Vanessa was in a playground with her little boy when they met with her. She looked at the form and signed it because she would never do a story about John's personal life. She was absolutely gutted by the stories about her."
Next, in a dramatic showdown, Toni, who has now fled to Dubai to get away from the scandal, called Vanessa on her mobile, demanding to know what had been going on.
Nadean said: "Toni called her before she flew off to Dubai and talked to her. Apparently it was quite calm. They're both adult and Toni is lovely so it was very civil."
There is of course no chance now that Vanessa will ever again be on speaking terms with Toni. As news of the scandal broke, friends urged her to turn to PR Max Clifford for advice.
Nadean says: "When Vanessa first met Wayne she found that he and John Terry were almost inseparable." The best friends introduced their partners to each other and they spent days away at a theme park together with Jaydon and Terry's twins.
Antonia says: "Toni and Vanessa got together because John and Wayne were such good friends and they both had children the same age so it made sense that on occasion the two couples got together, although they were never extremely close."
She adds: "Now it's all been ruined. Vanessa only cares about Wayne and her son. She was really sad when John lost the captaincy. She knows he is an excellent footballer and he loves his career. Vanessa told me she hopes he gets back together with Toni because of the children and because they've been together forever." Nadean insists: "Vanessa is in pieces about this. She is not your typical WAG - she hates that phrase - and she didn't want to hurt anyone, she didn't want to let anyone down. I think she's slept about four hours in the last week, I've been round or on the phone all through the night worried about what she might do."
Antonia said: "When I met Vanessa she was bright, looking forward to marrying Wayne and creating a stable life for her little boy. She was in most nights and didn't like the nightlife much. She didn't have a nanny and insisted on being with Jaydon.
"She speaks to him in French and it's just adorable to see how much she dotes on him. She is so protective of him.
"One thing that really struck me about Vanessa was that she loved shopping - she is the queen of shoes and lip gloss - but she is very conscious about what things cost. She liked hanging out with the other WAGS but that was more because their boyfriends and husbands were mates more than anything else."
Nadean, who worked with Vanessa at celebrity hangout Elysium nightclub in 2002, said: "Vanessa and I got to know VIPs working at the nightclub. We chatted to them but she was never out to bag a rich man. At that time we were friends with John Terry and we would go out after work with him and Wayne long before they got together. It seemed very innocent. Then when Vanessa started dating Wayne she became friendly with Cheryl Cole and Carly Zucker." Yesterday Wayne, 29, was back at work, playing his first game after a lengthy injury.
Antonia says: "She was friendly with Toni, but they weren't particularly close - they got on because their partners were mates and that was really it. They had their own lives and they are pretty different characters. When Vanessa got pregnant with Wayne she was over the moon. It was perfect. They were so excited about having a little boy and called him Jaydon Jean-Claude Bridge - his middle name is after her father who unfortunately took his own life when she was 22.
"Vanessa has always told us how she came from a broken home and didn't want that for her children, which was why she was all the more devastated when things broke up with Wayne. She never really saw the split as permanent."
Vanessa, who was born in Bandol in South East France, moved to Paris when her parents split when she was six.
She spent her childhood years shuttling between her mother and father, spending half a year with each parent.
When her father died she moved to London to pursue a career in modelling, her beauty and Gallic charm winning her jobs on a James Bond set and lingerie shoots.
Keen to make something of herself and stand on her own two feet, Vanessa spent her weeks on modelling shoots and weekends earning money at Elysium.
Nadean says: "I remember this one night Wayne had broken his leg but he was so keen to see Vanessa he came in to the club to meet her on his crutches. It was so sweet but you could tell he'd fallen for her."
Their romance quickly blossomed and within six months - in February 2006 - Vanessa fell pregnant.
Antonia, who shares a personal training session with Vanessa three times a week said her friend was now considering quitting England for good, possibly moving back to her native France.
She said: "Vanessa doesn't know what she's going to do now.
"One thing is for sure - she won't be going to South Africa for the World Cup and she'll be cheering for France."
