L band text messages may have been sent ( automatically by aircraft sensors aka ACARS ) but if the plane was already breaking up , or in an abnormal attitiude , or spinning, or otherwise SOL ( Shit Outta Luck in Pilot talk ..) . the antennae wouldn't have pointed up at the sat and " Mother " Air Bus receiving centre in Toulouse, [sp?] France may not have received messages that went out.
Others, namely amateur ham radio operators might have.
I think this is stemming from the suspicion there are some ACARS missing messages, theorists have it Air Bus is hiding something .. aside from the growing body of evidence the planes are overly dependent on electronic automation, like having flight attitude/speed indicators that black out if the power fails.
