Depressed Schapelle Corby rushed to hospital

SCHAPELLE Corby has been rushed to hospital, suffering depression after spending much of the past few weeks trembling and overcome with emotion in her Bali jail.

She was under guard last night in a police hospital, Kerobokan Jail's head of security, Maliki, confirmed.

Jailors said the Queenslander, 31, had been tearful over the past two weeks.
Fellow prisoners said she did not sleep at night and they feared she had given up hope of being released.

It is the second time in a year the convicted drug smuggler has been struck with depression.

Her jail doctor, Agung Hartawan, last night said Corby had gone downhill from Thursday and he had brought in a psychiatrist to examine her.

The decision was made on Friday night to take her to hospital.

"Sometimes she just hangs around the cell, sometimes she forgets about things, sometimes she forgets to look after herself, has bad dreams," he said.

He said it was easier to monitor Corby while she was in hospital to ensure she took all her prescribed medication because she appeared not to be taking it all at the jail.

Earlier, she had not been focused while talking, her answers to questions had been slow and vague and she had been distant during attempts to converse with her, he said.

The doctor said he did not know how long Corby would remain in hospital.

Two weeks ago, Corby was clearly struggling with her predicament.

She appeared distant, her hands trembled and she fought back tears when she told how she had lost hope of being declared innocent and freed from jail.

She also told how she no longer thought much about the world outside her jail cell.

She had been seeking to have some activities behind bars to keep her busy and proposed starting a beauty salon to teach fellow prisoners and conduct treatments.

Jail authorities said they has set up a committee to study the proposal, along with another of Corby's proposals, to open a small shop selling handicrafts made by prisoners.

Corby was arrested in October 2004 after being caught with 4.1kg of marijuana. She was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to 20 years' jail.

Isn't this what being in prison is all about!

Punishment for breaking the law and losing your freedom because of that fact.

Maybe the idiot should have read her travel guide more carefully and before she went on her fateful holiday.

I imagine the Aussie press are going to have a field day with this new episode as well!

Fucked up but probably true. In many countries, (Thailand included) murder is not as serious as drug dealing / possession. I never get that whole ideal? Especially when the drug in question is proven to be non-harmful to human health.

Oh fuck it all, who cares anyway. Until humanity grows up we will be stuck in this current quagmire of ignorance.

It was 4.2 kg. Thats about 9 Lbs in the old scale.

I agree with you that Marywarna should be a legal substance but it is not and she broke that law in a BIG WAY.

I thought that some of them got released...I could very well be wrong on that.

As for getting depressed...Foooooooook Indonesian jail..Java....

that would possibly my solution...there's a book out there about this guys time in the nick over there....It gave me the willy's...horrible doesn't come close...it may be better for the birds..but for this guy...it really was horrendous..that was for weed an all....

I agree pot should be legal..maybe even mandatory...(stops violent behaviour..generally) but to get 20yrs for it stinks...loads of indonesians smoke.

Anyone read her book? Did see somewhere she has been going outside to the hairdresers so if true they are treating her pretty well. Probably Just another attention seeking stunt to keep her case in the news. That's an idea why don't she get pregnant for a bit more sympathy?

Corby and her family have been linked to the drug trade through several media reports. Too much smoke for there not to be some fire somewhere.

But she is a good looking blonde 31 year old farang chic with big tits, and her family has some money, so some special privileges are assured. Just a pity she didn't have 4 little doe-eyed girls pining for her release for the folks back home.

If she can produce a sprog in prison it might even gain her more benefits than the hairdressing or depression scam? But at the moment I suppose the prison officials are only sticking it in her mouth because of the ramifications of a rape scandal if a kid is produced.
