Another Moon news story - Biggest and Brightest Moon in 15 years

Each month the Moon orbits the Earth in an oval-shaped path, and on December 12 it will move past it around 28,000km closer than average.

The unusual feature is that this will coincide with a full moon, which will make it appear 14 per cent bigger and 30 per cent brighter than most full moons this year, on Friday night.

Astrologists say the next encounter with a moon this close and full will not be until November 14 2016.

To make the sight even more spectacular much of Britain should be treated to a phenomenon known as the Moon illusion.

This is an optical illusion in which the Moon appears larger near the horizon than it does while higher up in the sky.

Biggest and brightest full moon for 15 years will illuminate the night sky - Telegraph

I thought the Moon Illusion was the same everywhere in the world.

It would also explain why it doesn't look any bigger tonight

I know that you are trying to be funny there nooners but I can't quite grasp the joke.

I have just been chatting with a friend in Australia and asked her if she had seen the moon yet.

Her answer was "It looks fantastic. Is it extra bright or would that just be my imagination knowing what you have told me?"

(all I had told her was to go and look at the moon - but then filled her in on the details afterwards)

A short time later she got back to me and said.

"I just sent my 12 year old out to look, I didnt tell him anything before he went out. He just walked in saying it looks bigger and brighter. Thanks for the info MeMock."

So it must be bigger in Australia and not Thailand!
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    actually, I wasn't.

i was saying that it's a bit silly to wait for a moon picture when a zoom lens would be used wether the moon was where it normally is or a couple of 1000 km's closer.

the picture will be the same.

    a picture of a moon.

Oh okay, I thought it was some play on the words bobcock and full moon or something

I was actually trying to be funny as well with my comment. I thought Bobcoks last pics of the moon were excellent so thought i would be better then seeing it in real life.

Nooners, I would have believed you apart from two things.

You are crap at taking photos and I doubt that there are pine trees where you live

Oh yeah, make that three things - there seems to be an absence of power lines.

Make that four things, if the moon was on the horizon like that you must have taken the pic at sunset, 2 hours ago
