Following discontent in popular destinations like Lanzarote, Tenerife, Majorca, and Barcelona, it seems Alicante is the next EU holiday favourite to tighten its grip

UK travellers seeking sun-soaked getaways are facing a new challenge as an emerging hotspot in Spain prepares to "crackdown" on holidaymakers, potentially making British visitors feel less at ease. Following issues in well-trodden destinations such as Lanzarote, Tenerife, Majorca, and Barcelona, now it appears Alicante is joining the ranks in tightening controls.
Alicante Council has moved to impose a two-year moratorium on all new licences for tourist apartments. The council's Urban Planning councillor Rocio Gomez said this hiatus will allow time to reform the legal framework surrounding holiday lets and to "purify all those homes that do not comply with the regulations".
