Americans. Bless 'em. What would they know if Hollywood didn't tell 'em?

Tom Cruise's soon to be released epic tells America the 'Little known' story
that some German Generals once tried to assassinate Adolph Hitler!

    LITTLE BLUDDY KNOWN!

I am very fond of Americans as a rule (Yeah I freely admit it Old Bean) but their ignorance of anything that has or is happening, beyond their shores is laughable at times.

Even more laughable, of course, will be their slant on this piece of history.

Bet Milky will be spitting blood when he sees it............

I think he's referring to the new Cruise movie about the plot to assassinate Hitler. Can't remember what it's called right now.

Von Staffenburg planted a briefcase at the conference table.
Someone moved it so that it was behind a table leg thus deflecting the blast so that Hitler survived.
All the conspirators were rounded up and hung with piano wire.

    Not exactly "little known".

Saw an episode of Battle-field Detectives where they made an exact replica of the room, furniture and bomb and set it off. Good programme.

Erwin Rommel was told to commit suicide and he would get a state funeral and his family would be protected. He took poison and the "official" cause of death was announced as a brain seizure.

    Wow

    Wow

It must be nice to be able to judge the intelligence and knowledge of an entire nation by the ad for a single film.

Recently I was looking at some statistics and saw despite having only four percent of the world’s population, over 50% of the scientific patents come from America. In my field, the vast majority of the top academic Journals are published in the USA and most of the top scholars are Americans. Also, the percent of the population that attends undergraduate and graduate programs is much higher in the US than just about any other country. Sure we got our share of thickies (what nation doesn’t), but I was under the impression it would have been really hard to become the world’s only military, economic, and scientific superpower with a population full of idiots.

But I now I know I was wrong. becasue of this impressive bit of research posted here.

    Accidental Ajarn,

Brace yourself for the wrath of Lilly.
Americans are not allowed to defend being berated. We're just here to provide targets for those that view slagging the US as sport. Any retort or comeback -- witty, clever or otherwise -- is viewed as chest-beating and arrogant. Strictly prohibited.

I really hope the US won't adopt the UK's immigration policies. Is it true that in the UK you can no longer display the British flag?
