I had to look that up. It was set it 2029. If you're not careful you're going to cause a temporal paradox.

    This is no laughing matter.

Monkeypox: Seven more cases found in England bringing UK total to 78
Despite the number of cases rising in the UK, the risk to the population remains low. High-risk contacts of people who have the virus are being offered a vaccine to reduce severe illness and have been advised to stay at home for three weeks.

So if one has had chickenpox, one should be safe from monkeypox, right? Do they belong to the same virus family?

Disclaimer: I didn't read the article. I had chickenpox when I was in uni - there were no vaccines for chickenpox in PH during my time. You either got it or you didn't. It made me absent from school for 2 weeks, then I was ugly for ~2 months due to the scars on my face.

For the generation of my nephew (born 2000+), vaccines were already available. However, not all kids are vaccinated. Those who are economically challenged are usually unvaccinated, since it isn't included in the free govt vaccinations of PH. Polio vaccine is - there are fewer kids that I see now who have/ had polio. I know of some kids from my time who had polio & have a slight limp due to it. The mom of one of my classmates also had polio.

Edit: there's a vet who got monkeypox in 2003 (from treating animals) who suggested that we should bring back smallpox vaccinations since it (smallpox) wasn't eradicated in all parts of the world.

the only problem , as indicated by joe90 , is not all the monkeys will line up for the smallpox vaccination

Vaccine by Allen Arthur is a good book if you want to find out about the history of vaccine development - and much of it is not nice

So did he exchange bodily fluids with 12 people then?

Health officials are monitoring the condition of 12 people who were in close contact with a traveller diagnosed with monkeypox who transited through Thailand for two hours while en route to Australia.
Chakarat Pittayawonganon, director of epidemiology at the Department of Disease Control, said on Monday that the 12 people were passengers and flight attendants on the same flight as the confirmed case.
They had remained asymptomatic over the past seven days and would be monitored until day 21, the disease incubation period.
Dr Chakarat said the confirmed case had travelled from Europe and spent two hours in transit.
Those who were in close contact with the case were not at high risk because the infected passenger was asymptomatic during the transit period.

People with monkeypox symptoms should not have sex, health officials have said.

The guidance was issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and authorities in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus, as a further 71 cases were identified in England.

In all 179 cases have been confirmed in the UK since 7 May. Most are in England, with four in Scotland, two in Northern Ireland and one in Wales.

People with monkeypox were also urged to avoid close contact with others until their lesions have healed and any scabs have dried off, the guidance says.

They should also use condoms for eight weeks after the infection.

I thought monkey-pox was a hoax, then I saw PB's face .... now I'm a believer. Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
