It boggles the mind how a live, loaded fucking gun can be being used on a movie set.
Oh say can you seeeee
I always thought that replica guns had a smaller bore that would allow for blanks but not real bullet sizes.
I know then can add flashes and bangs afterwards but you still need to see the recoil to make it believable.
I read somewhere that members of the film crew were using the cowboy guns for target practice during their off hours — and it’s possible some bullets were left in the chamber.
Could it be a question of familiarity breeds contempt? Does US have any sort of mandatory firearms training for gun owners/handlers? In Canada in order to be able to buy a hunting rifle one has to go on a basic gun handling course which covers all the stuff discussed. Never point and anyone, always check if empty when handed to, etc... Would Alec have gone through any of that?
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all
Those who cannot change their mind, cannot change anything.
Heartwarming indeed that the family have found peace. Although I'm surprised they haven't ditched this movie already.
Might be a candidate for "Cursed Films Season three".
Alec Baldwin and the production company for the film Rust have reached a settlement with the family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was fatally shot on set.
Following the agreement, filming of Rust will resume in January 2023 - with Ms Hutchins' husband Matthew executive producing, he said in a statement.
The cinematographer died after a prop gun held by Baldwin was discharged during rehearsals for the western film in New Mexico in October 2021, and her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the star and others who worked on the production earlier this year.
Baldwin is a producer for the film, as well as its star.
Mr Hutchins said a settlement had now been reached, subject to court approval, and that as part of the agreement the civil case would be dismissed.
"The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023," he said. "I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr Baldwin).
"All of us believe Halyna's death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna's final work."
No further details about the settlement have been released.
Baldwin's attorney, Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel, said: "Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna's son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation."
Almost a year on, no charges have been filed in connection with the shooting.
In an on-camera interview a few weeks afterwards, Baldwin recalled the moments leading up to the tragedy. He said he was handed the revolver and told "this is a cold gun" - an industry term meaning it was either empty or loaded with dummy rounds.
He said the gun went off accidentally and that he did not pull the trigger. However, a recent FBI forensic report found the weapon could not have fired unless the trigger was pulled.
Director Joel Souza was also wounded when the gun went off, suffering a shoulder injury.
In a statement released following the settlement announcement, he paid tribute to Ms Hutchins and said he could only return to direct the film with her family's involvement.
"Those of us who were lucky enough to have spent time with Halyna knew her to be exceedingly talented, kind, creative, and a source of incredible positive energy," he said.
"I only wish the world had got to know her under different circumstances, as it surely would have through her amazing work.
"In my own attempts to heal, any decision to return to finish directing the film could only make sense for me if it was done with the involvement of Matt and the Hutchins family.
"Though certainly bittersweet, I am pleased that together, we will now complete what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honouring Halyna's legacy and making her proud. It is a privilege to see this through on her behalf."
Attorney Melina Spadone, of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman on behalf of Rust Movie Productions, said: "We are pleased the parties came together to resolve this matter, which, subject to court approval, marks an important step forward in celebrating Halyna's life and honouring her work."
The settlement comes after a report found the film's production company "knew that firearm safety procedures were not being followed on set" and "demonstrated plain indifference to employee safety".
Rust Movie Productions was fined $136,793 (£104,810), the maximum allowable by state law in New Mexico, following a six-month investigation by the state's environment department.
Baldwin and the Rust producers also face a case brought by script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, although a Los Angeles judge recently ruled they would not have to face its central claims of assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate. In its last update in August, a spokeperson said detectives were waiting to receive and review phone records before forwarding their case file to the state's district attorney for review.

Actor Alec Baldwin is charged with negligent homicide

Actor Alec Baldwin is being charged with manslaughter in the case where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed while filming the movie 'Rust' after the actor fired a prop gun.
This is stated by the New Mexico prosecutor's office according to Reuters.
The film's weapons officer Hannah Gutierrez Reed is also being charged with negligent homicide.
- After a thorough review of the evidence, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence. On my watch, no one is above the law and everyone deserves justice, said Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies.
Halyna Hutchins was shot in October 2021. Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin has said several times in interviews that he was not responsible for the murder.
Having a supplier provide live rounds instead of dummy rounds? Is this really what happened? I have used blank ammunition in training and it was clearly different from live ammunition (crimped and colour) All the same, I was ordered to point above target and never to fire at a <min range>.
'Rust' armorer sues film's ammo supplier over deadly, on-set shooting : NPR
However, Alec Baldwin should not have pointed the gun at Halyna Hutchins at all. Surely he can point at camera without having to point at her? The gun is loaded, blank or live makes no difference, so he should be charged with negligent discharge of a weapon. If I was the armourer and there were no distinct markings to indicate dummy rounds then I would have rejected them, so unless there was a definite indication then she is also negligent in my view.
Looks like Baldwin can still get himself a prime time TV show then.

The prosecuter has enhanced the manslaughter charge because it involves a firearm. This means the sentence could be as high as 5 years.
I have only paid cursory attention to this case , but that does not stop me from having an opinion LOL
I remember having read that there is a person responsible for props such as this, so why is Baldwin charged ?
Unless I missed something , he was using a prop that he thought was vetted by the responsible entity.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
The Actor Alec Baldwin is innocent in this death. It is not his job to check the gun. That is up to the person in charge of set safety and the armourer.
However, the Producer Alec Baldwin will probably bear some responsibility.
Because he was the one who pulled the trigger. When you are handed a real gun, there is still some protocols to follow.
Some people are saying that there wasn't supposed to be a gun in this scene. But since Baldwin was his own boss , he decided to add a gun at the last minute. He was just supposed to take it out of the holster. It wasn't even a shooting scene. So the armorer grabs a gun and gives it to him. He gets back into the scene and was just playing with it in his hand and it went off.
Baldwin was handed the gun and was told it was a "cold gun" (which would mean nothing inside, not even a blank). Baldwin has also argued that he did not pull the trigger and that it just "went off" (not sure anyone believes that).
The question on Baldwin is likely to be two fold, namely given a gun he was told was cold - did he have a responsibility to personally double check that? Secondly, does he have a direct responsibility as a producer of the film who failed to ensure that adequate safety measure were in place. According to reports, nearly NO accepted safety measures were in place.
A prop gun which was a real gun. This was the fundamental cause of Hutchins death. Was only a matter of time before someone was killed.
"Why are real guns still used on film sets? In wake of 'Rust' shooting, their future is in question
"Any risk is too much risk," one TV producer said."
Why are real guns still used on film sets? In wake of '''Rust''' shooting, their future is in question
Baldwin will be acquitted
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
Did you at least stretch before you engaged in such mental gymnastics? I hate to see you pull a neuron. (Assuming you have any left.)
Even at best such an explanation would indicate accidental death .
IMO the DA (An elected official and thus political) is trying to make a name for him/herself .
