There's something quite heart-warming about these reports which so entertain us all with their vivid insights into the stupidity of people in general, and of course Americans in particular.

If there is such a thing as a higher order manipulating human enterprise, then they certainly do have a delicious sense of irony.

I'm reminded of a recent article I read somewhere in which it reported the last words uttered by General Sedgwick at a battle in Spotsylvania in 1864 before a Confederate sharpshooter blew his brains out " They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance".
