Toronto police have named a suspect.


The man, who has been arrested, is Alek Minassian, aged 25, of Richmond Hill, police said on Twitter.

A video showing the moment a police officer confronted and arrested a suspect.


The man can be seen pointing a gun at the police officer, shouting "kill me" and "I've a gun in my pocket".


The police officer continues to tell him to "get down".

Another lunatic off the streets.

That video is remarkable for a couple of reasons.

First because the dude very, very clearly wanted to be shot - the restraint that cop showed was remarkable - and secondly for those people nonchalantly strolling in the background.

Toronto: A 25-year-old man who drove a rental van into a crowded Toronto footpath was charged on Tuesday with 10 counts of murder and 13 of attempted murder as Canadian authorities searched for a motive in the deadliest mass murders in the country's modern history.


Alek Minassian showed little overt emotion as he made a brief appearance in a Toronto courtroom in a white jumpsuit and handcuffs. The judge ordered him to be detained without bond and scheduled the next hearing for May 10.
