It's just more evidence that most black men (in particular) are treated very different in US society than white men are in my opinion.

Mind it's a good thing neither of them were holding a phone when the cops arrived or they might've been shot 12 times then handcuffed and then had their lifeless, bloodied, corpses dragged out.

True but it's a pretty consistent story backed-up by most of the witnesses.

I would suggest you watch the Starbucks CEO's interview on CNN.

He is taking full responsibility and said categorically that it should not have happened and they did not deserve it.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross said officers were told the men had come in and asked to use the restroom but were denied because they hadn't bought anything. He said they then refused to leave.

Refuse to buy anything and refuse to leave... Of course the cops needed to be called. At least buy a btl of water ffs, if you're gonna refuse to leave.

Factoring in the company’s $22.39 billion in annual sales, and dividing it by the number of days in the year suggests that Starbucks banks about $61.3 million every day. But since according to the announcement, Starbucks locations will close only for part of the afternoon, MarketWatch calculated that locations would lose about 20% of their daily revenue, or $12 million.

They should shut down the outlets in Thailand as well. Having once some 15 years ago an overpriced coffee by a mistake at Starbucks in S.F. , I have never had a desire since to have another one from them. Why they are all over world, similarly as MacD, KFC, etc?. There is no mall in Thailand without them.

Paradoxically, in Thailand with one of the best food longed for around the world - and own coffee as well, we cannot do without those famous chains?

And that beside the fact, how they pay the tax in the local country?

A kind of modern colonisation started 100 years ago in South America with UFC...

I believe you took Cujo's post out of context, maybe. Anyway, the hood is everywhere, even among indigenous Italians, in Italy. Actually, I've also encountered a few dagos, along the way, of whom were also, ok!

Apropos of fock all... But thinking about it now I don't think I've stepped foot in a Starbucks in me entire life, not once, ever.

I've never got the whole coffee thing but those that do sure seem to get deep into it.

    ^^ me too.

I'm afraid to go in and see the price of a simple Latte. And the cops might be called when I start pocketing everything that's not bolted down.

I use Starbucks in Thailand. Service is usually good, coffee is OK, ciabatta sandwiches are OK, double chocolate espresso brownies are delicious. Prices are around the 100 baht mark for a latte, depending on size. I don't mind paying it if everything else is OK. Lots of people hang around in there for ages, some even have meetings there, but they all seem to buy a drink first.

I don't think the OP issue is really a Starbucks issue, but rather a USA issue. It's not the first time customers of colour have been told to leave a restaurant and/or arrested in the USA. There was another similar thread on here recently. It seems to me to be an American culture thing.

^^ wouldn't most people be asked to leave if they refuse to buy anything, regardless of race?

Or will it now be that blacks can hang around while refusing to buy something and refusing to leave, but whites can't.

Which would of course be racist.
