No, not joking. What's the interest for a non-Maltese crook in a Maltese journo who has reported on Maltese affairs? The cat's out of the bag long ago.
It's more likely revenge, and since she reported on Maltese dodginess, it's more likely to be a Maltese crook.

See Post #8. I don't think any crook in a place as small as Malta would be dumb (or experienced) enough to use a car bomb.

In fact I would guess the perps are already back home (in Baku, maybe?).
