If he was on the plane illegally (and if he surrendered his seat/ticket that would be the case if he refused to leave- the fact he once held a valid ticket would mean nothing once he accepted compensation [if the NBC report was accurate]) then he was going to be removed from the plane one way or the other- since 9/11 and the enactment of new TSA guidelines, airline security has rights within the aircraft and airport that go pretty far as far as conflict resolution goes.
In the US, it's a bad idea to to play the 'If you want me to comply, make me' game with airport security, because they're going to make you.
Again, if the report I posted is correct, then they were 'justified' in a legal sense- I'm not going to argue that is seemed way over-the-top and it certainly seems like it should have been handled differently. Without all the facts, all we have are assumptions at this point.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

^ That video news report seems to be the only one stating the man agreed to take the $800 United dollars and got off the plane, only to get back on.
I've seen interviews of others on board and read many versions of the tale, all different from NBC.

This family got $11,000 compensation for being bumped- plus their tickets refunded. Richard Quest says over booking is the back bone of the system;
They can bump me for only 5k

^ That was it!... cheers, Lance.
The $11 k payout, they used as an example of fair compensation. I wouldn't accept much less. $800 pft... I spend more than that on batteries for me fleshlight...![]()
United CEO Oscar Munoz needs to man up and take notes from this guy
Actually Oscar Munoz wasn't there and had no direct part in this and wouldn't have even heard about it until after the event.
It's the guys who actually dragged him out that people, the media and the lawyers need to go after.

BA routinely do it during summer/school holiday periods, and if everyone arrives and they have to offload, they normally offer 500 quid travel vouchers and a few hundred quid in cash.
I know one bloke that kept going to the airport for every morning and evening flight for two days, and finally accepted a seat at the fifth attempt.
With those payouts for him, his missus and two kids, he paid for a very nice second holiday just for the sake of missing a couple of days of the first one.
So as long as the incentives are OK, I see no problem with overbooking.
United's problem was that they stopped too early. I'm sure if they'd gone to $1000 and a nice meal and hotel (the next flight was the following afternoon), they would have had four volunteers.
Look what it's cost them instead.
Dimwits.
Just saw an interview in which Munoz, the United CEO says, in answer to a question as to whether the passenger did anything wrong, "No".
It's never going to get to court, and I feel the good doctor is probably going to be a very rich man.
Exactly...Any "fool" knows the "rules"...If you have "a case," it can always be settled without screaming like a silly bitch...Originally Posted by FailSafe
To say that there is no justification to be "hauled off" a plane?...I disagree...Should it have been handled differently?...Seems a no-brainer...Perhaps United should have sent their top "Infant Psychiatrist" so he wouldn't have spit the dummy...Heh...
The point is people have been removed from a plane...Not only this clown...The others have claim to "compensation" as he does...But because he was allegedly "battered," and has the mental strength of a gnat, everyone thinks he should retire a multi-millionaire [and solicit homos on the beach (sorry)...heh]...Most of his "physical damage" was caused by his own "weird resistance," anyway...But wait!...A streak of fooking blood down the side of his face!...Now it's going both viral and "bacterial"...555...
You can't make this shit up...Life, indeed, is stranger than fiction...
It's all a big drama...I suppose a "terrorist's" history would be irrelevant, as well, and "battering" him as they ejected him as he sat "in the guise" of an "honest paying customer" would surely be worthy of compensation...
Heh...This guy might never be allowed to fly again except under special circumstances...Maybe trussed like Hannibal Lecter with a red ball in his mouth...
Feel sorry he made such a fool of himself...
I posted a picture of a guy jumping over a shark in response to this comment. It got deleted. That makes no sense.Originally Posted by BaitongBoy

Munoz's first "apology" shifted the blame to the passenger and told the United "family" he backs them up. United may have a moral problem, but blaming customers won't fix that problema![]()
I was told many times sorry flight overbooked, we have to move you from economy to business, never complained to that...Thai Airways made me this often, Etihad and others, once i was even moved to first in the US, NY - San Fran, was a nice flight that.
^ Poor them, although that would be wages.. not sub-contract prices agreed directly with the home-owner i.e. self employed.Originally Posted by barrylad66

Might only have a couple sweet jobs like that per week though.. probably average a grand per day... my bro specializes in patching holes (a bit like SP lol).. you know, tenants who punch/kick a hole in their drywall... he charges $250 minimum... uses quick dry 5 min plaster - armed with a hair dryer, the blighter is in and out in under 30 min.. *bit like SP heh...
Sorry for the diversion.. in hindsight I shouldn't have mentioned prices, I brought this derision on myself (as per normal)...
Sure, I can always use more drywall plasterers... poms use a different method than us, prefer local Thai lads as they are quicker... send them over... paying $25 m2 for skim or $7.50 for standard new Gib. Better hurry though, as we are moving to Jappers very soon.Originally Posted by Lancelot
