I believe there's more than a remote chance, that additional info will exonerate United. Why would the United CEO make statements that has, without knowing more than we at this point know?

Never underestimate how much a nutter, can manipulate how things look at first glance.

    Yeah right. the lowest/cheapest price.
When I posted the above this morning the UAL stock was down a bit.

It opened this morning at 70.15. Closed at 70.70

    UAL history,……

Four largest carries in the states (American Airlines/Delta Air Lines/Southwest Airlines/United), closed up from today’s opening.

Well yes. What's the worst case scenario here for United - a settlement of a few thousand dollars? What actually happened to the guy ... a little cut, some bruises maybe, there just isn't enough for it to be 100s of thousands or millions. No one died, nobody is maimed. There isn't going to be a boycott of United or anything like that, especially now that its know the "victim" is a weird old Asian man.

A doctor who brought up a family of doctors.

The company needs to settle quickly and make a full public apology.

Can anyone possibly clarify why this guy's past, or what he does for a living, has anything to anything?

Jaysus, this thread has "taken off"...With a fully booked "complement" of members...I'm pages behind and "miles to go before I sleep"...Maybe one of you guys will give up his/her "seat" for one of the "latest" members, so he/she can fly the friendly forum...

Anyhow, Troy, it's been that way "forever"...I remember it happening when our team was at Dallas Ft. Worth airport...Five of our team "stayed over" after promises of five Executive Suites, first-class tickets out in the morning and a reimbursement cheque for all five flights paid immediately...Not bad for Saturday night in Dallas...

Can't remember the airline, but everyone was smiling...

According to CNN, the crew had to be at their destination the next morning or another United flight would have been cancelled.

I'm not defending United, they screwed up big time.

Supposedly (per a CNN commentator) a United agent entered the plane before the rukus and began barking instructions "Four people need to vacate this flight. Work it out among yourselves OR this plane isn't leaving!" Really enlightened customer service...

What would have resolved it was for a United manager with some personality to board the plane and explain why they need the seats, then offer more compensation.

"$800 not enough? Yeah I wouldn't settle for that either, how about a cool $1,000?! AND three nights at XYZ luxury hotel on United's dime? Woe is me, I'm gonna get fired but I like you guys so let's make a deal. Any one want a drink?"

The United CEO hedged his so called apology, trying to keep on the good side of his employees. Is their Union that powerful?

My second point is, unfortunately this will blow over in a few months. Don't agree? How about "Amazing Thailand" where they some times beat tourists senseless, including even murder. Then bungle the investigation like a troop of Keystone Cops (so the real perps aren't charged.)

People started boycotting Amazing Thailand di ba?

Yesterday I posted a joke about this on Facebook, but United had it forcibly removed.

Agreed. The CEO needs to tear up, hat in hand and make the mother of all apologies.

Better yet, the Board should fire him and bring in a new CEO to thoroughly reform the companies customer service philosophy.

According to CNN, United flies more Chinese to the USA than any other airline- and Weibo was going into melt down about this

Yeah, it could have been settled with a little more cash/goodies.

Unfortunately once policy begins, they follow it blindly.

1 Offer compensation to bumped passengers.

    2 Increase offer

    3 No takers? Call security.

    Unfortunately After 9-11 airports weren't in to stupid mode. TSA agents -who Burger King wouldn't hire- think they are god and lord it over people;

Flight Attendants sometimes threaten passengers "Shut up or I'll have you arrested when the plane lands"

Security over reacting like bar bouncers

The "good doctor's history" is a part of it...If that little "biography" is accurate, the guy was a "time bomb"...

Called it "right"...He was a "nutter"...

Not defending United and the "American Way"...But the little booger is not so innocent...

For reasons which have repeatedly been pointed out, they're a part of fuck all, though no doubt the United lawyers came in their pants when they read this (if they weren't actually responsible for the story themselves). Obviously, though, this aspect will play to a certain type of racist fuckwit (hello blue), who will now think the airline are proud purveyors of Aryan Christian values.

A pliant and forgetful media plays a part in that. Murders can happen anywhere. In fact the two situations are completely incomparable.

^ Unless I missed the stories about the TAT sending out squads of goons to assault backpackers as they ambled through immigration then I think you might be right.

"Just kill me!"...Heh...He can't just be upset and angry and get off the flight...Like a "normal" person...

Hang on...He's a doctor...That part of "his history" used to be in his favour...

Now "that history" is being "re-written"...

Perhaps a psychotic killer's "history"" is of "no concern," as well...

    Poor wee fck...

Character assassination now on a guy who was minding his business? Pathetic.

Ever hear of people getting stressed on flights in ordinary circumstances?

Or you missed the story of two British backpackers murdered by connected Thais on Kho Tao and officials opined that "Thais wouldn't do this. Turns out he was correct; they found two Burmese to take the rap

OR the elderly British woman that was beaten to the ground by a much younger Thai man, then kicked in the head. (Never can be too carful with unconscious victims)

Like, where are those stories now?
