Jaguar paraded for Olympic torch event killed after it escaped from its handlers

A jaguar trotted out for the Olympic torch's passage through Brazil's Amazon was killed shortly afterward when it escaped its handlers and threatened a vet, the Brazilian military said on Tuesday.

The feline - whose species is the symbol of the Amazon - was shot dead in the northern city of Manaus on Monday soon after it was photographed with the torch passing by. An attempt to use tranquilizer darts on it failed.

"It escaped and ran off as it was being moved from one area to another in the zoo," said Colonel Luiz Gustavo Evelyn, whose unit is deployed in the region.....

Most be worth quite a bit.

The genitals can go to the Chinese doctors.

The coat and skull to an African dictator.

The meat to Blackgang's Cooking School.

Yeah, the Olympics, like everything else in the world, have been taken over by corporate greed; I won't be watching any of it.

    Speaking of balls

Rio 2016 athletes may have grounds to complain about sewer-infested waters, or half-empty stands. A shortage of contraceptives, however, is not bound to be a problem.
Olympic organizers are distributing 450,000 condoms (link in Portuguese) to athletes, Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo reports. In the interest of equality and variety, 100,000 of those will be female condoms, and 175,000 lubricant sachets will also be available.
That’s an Olympic record at the equivalent of 42 condoms per athlete. Presuming the athletes are paired with one another and using only one condom per encounter, that’s enough contraception for 84 encounters. During the 2012 London games, organizers handed out a third as many condoms as will be distributed in Rio. And only 100,000 condoms were given out at the 2014 winter games in Sochi.

    Jesus,

Two para-olympic athletes robbed at gunpoint, and this.

I expect to hear a LOT of bad stories in the coming fiasco known as the Rio Olympics.

Maybe the Olympic Committee that planned this fiasco is due for a FIFA type cleanup?

7.4 billion people on earth and only 15,000 jaguars yet the jaguar is the one which gets killed. I hate that.

Isn't there some regulation against these being so wide? if not, why bother to watch?

Historically, the average age of U.S. women’s gymnastics teams has hovered around age 16 – and this year is no different. On the 2012 U.S. women’s gymnastics team, ages of the athletes range from 15 to 18 years of age

Apparently she asked her coach if she would be better if she switched to running hurdles. He said he thought that might be stretching it too far.
