Budweiser to call it's beer "America" until November

Budweiser Just Renamed Its Beer ‘America’

Just in case Budweiser’s galloping horse-filled commercials overlaid with text like “not soft,” “not small,” “not imported” wasn’t a tipoff, the beer company wants you to know that they’re American as apple pie. (Well, except for the fact that they’re owned by Belgian corporation Anheuser-Busch, but let’s not get bogged down in minutia.) The company will double down on its patriotism this summer when it renames itself “America.”

No, this is not a Colbert bit. It’s a marketing strategy. Until the election in November, every bottle or can you pick up will read not “Budweiser” but “America.” In addition to changing the name, Budweiser is adorning their packaging with text like “Land of the Free,” “Indivisible Since 1776” and “Liberty and Justice for All.”

What with the Olympics and the election, this summer will be “maybe the most American summer ever,” Budweiser vice president Ricard Marques argued in an interview with Fast Company. Who knew that this year could get more American than Peyton Manning jonesing for a cold Bud after winning the Super Bowl?

“We thought nothing was more iconic than Budweiser and nothing was more iconic than America,” added Tosh Hall, creative director at the company’s branding firm JKR.

Perhaps they could complete the renaming by removing the word 'Beer' from the label.

I foresee massive confusion reigning when JimBobBubba tells Abdul the 7-11 clerk to give him a 12-pack of Bud and Abdul says, "I am so sorry, we no longer carry Budweiser. How about some Americans for you?"

    And JimBobBubba shoots him...........

Since you're not getting bogged down by minutiae, you should try facts. Anheuser-Busch is the American brewing company that brews Budweiser. The company is owned by Belgian brewing company InBev.

Maybe the name change is to slowly distance itself from real beer?

I've never met anyone who drinks Bud that is worth pissing on if they were on fire. The scorn dealt out to anyone arriving at a party with a case of bud; they never make that mistake again. It is woeful, and for a non american to drink it, it is a declaration that they are basically an idiot whose life is ruled by advertising.

Years ago I was told that the law in America for forbids the brewing of a stronger beer , hence the weak Bud

If the films/TV/books etc. are to be believed (and clearly they aren't) everyone in the US drinks it. I was kinda fascinated with it there for a while. I remember reading Stephen King books and he had a way of making it sound really good.

Eventually I got to try it for myself. And it wasn't good at all. In fact it was shit.

As a Yank, I can't defend it. Most mass produced American beer is simply beer flavored water.

Can't think of any NZ mass-produced beers I'd recommend either. Maybe Steinlager Pure but good luck getting that anywhere outside of NZ.

The original Steinlager you can. But that's shit.

I don't know, I think if I had the offer of a Bud or Chang, I'd go with the elephant piss.

Anyone ever noticed how beer in green bottles can sometimes be spoiled and taste a bit naff (particularly in a hot climate like Thailands)?

It's because science: green bottles allow more light in than brown ones and if it's left too long in the sunlight, like on top of a pallet during transport, it can spoil.

No need to thank me. Thank science.
