Terror in London: Italian cops arrest two Afghan men 'who were plotting attacks in Canary Wharf and at top hotels in the capital'

TWO Afghan men have been arrested on suspicion of plotting deadly terror attacks in London’s Canary Wharf and at various hotels in the capital.

Italian cops arrested the pair in the southern Italian city of Bari after allegedly finding incriminating evidence a mobile phone.

The suspicious information was only recovered when the pair were held by police who wanted to question them both, as well as a third Afghan and a Pakistani man, after they were spotted filming inside a Bari shopping mall.

The investigation began in December after four Afghans were spotted taking videos inside a shopping centre in Bari in southern Italy, and a police search of their phones uncovered other images of the city's airport and port, as well as sites in Rome, Paris and London.

"It was clear these were not tourist images. They appear to have been scouting sensitive sites," prosecutor Roberto Rossi said at a press conference in Bari.

The phones also contained images of Italian and Afghan military vehicles and weapons, as well as Taliban propaganda videos and "a series of chants traditionally sung in preparation for martyrdom", he said.

One of the defendants was also seen in a photograph posing with an MS16 semi automatic rifle, which Rossi said was "not an easy weapon to find on the market".

He also had links on his smartphone to websites "only accessible to those with connections to the international jihadist network".

The suspects had been taking expensive trips around Europe, which they had paid for in cash, Rossi said.

Investigators also uncovered details of trafficking prices and routes of migrants into Italy, but also through Hungary or Calais.

But they were unable to pull information from one of the phones recovered: a locked iPhone.

The two men arrested had each been awarded a humanitarian residence permit in Italy -- one in 2011 and one last week -- and the latter was still living at a reception centre for asylum seekers when he was detained.

Interior Minister Angelino Alfano hailed the "success of a high-level inquiry" and said the case showed no country was "zero risk".

Police said the investigation would continue, with Rossi suggesting it was "likely" the wanted men had returned to Afghanistan and Pakistan, but could also be in other European countries.

Not calling bullshit on this just yet, this "muslims taking photographs, so we arrested them and cobbles together some BS claim about bomb plots" story. However, I am not surprised that you do not see many people with the MS16 gun. This is easily explainable - it is a fake gun ina video game called Far Cry.

Of course the pictures show, what, an M16A2?

Questions - When were they arrested? How did the press get hold of the photos?

This is great. Check these "incriminating" photos that make them believe they are terrorists - these are the actual pictures from their phone.

Terrorismo, progettavano attentati in Italia: 3 fermi tra Bari e Milano - Tgcom24

(Where do ISIS get all these Humvees from again?)

Actually the rest on there would be concerning. So clearly a couple of scum bags.

Is it illegal to think about committing a crime?

London is safe from a Muslim lead terror attack now anyway, because it has a new Muslim elected Mayor.
London is as safe as houses.

    Arco e Frecce. Fucili semiautomatici

Reality check. In Italy, where these lads live, there is nothing illegal about these guns. In fact, you can buy the gun pictured from these guys

Colt M4 Carbine Assault Rifle dell'M16A2 variant. : Armeria e Antiquariato - Negozio Online

So the fact that they have their photo taken with these guns means nothing. The media are relying on the fact that no one reading search in Italian for the italian gun laws and the ability of them to hold a gun bought by someone else.

If having these photos of themselves did mean they were terrorists, or likely to be terrorists, then you would have to lay the same charges against anyone with a picture of themselves holding a gun that is legal in their country.

What else do they have? Photos and videos of places. Well that means everyone is a terrorist in the whole world.

what else? ISIS websites? Well that makes a lot of people terrorists, me included, as I have pictures of myself holding guns from shot guns to others on gun ranges. Certainly not ones like this (the US style look at me aren't I tough holding a gun") but pictures where I am firing guns taken by other people. Guns are fun after all.

So so far.... this is a load of rubbish released to up the fear in Europe.

Well,ENT. I was thinking along similar lines to pseudolus. The guy is holding a rifle in what looks to be a supermarket or cash and carry. But where? It is probably in a country where it is legal to carry weapons. If so, what's the problem with the guy doing that in the photo? In other words, the photo needs some context. In itself, it seems to me (at this stage) to be harmless.

The rifle might even not be real.

The MS16 semi automatic rifle is an assault rifle, not the average novice gun club piece.

It can switch over to full auto, so a very lethal weapon, as effective as a machine gun in full auto mode.

Was also known as the AR15 or Armalite, a .308 calibre rifle.

They were quite easily available in NZ during the '80s or so.

    That's a M16.

The gun the lads are holding is not that gun.

Either way, it is legal in Italy.

    Next?

So Google bots (and Yahoo, Bing, Baidu bots/crawlers/spiders, etc) don't visit the sites?

43,197 views! Wow. That's a lot of alleged 'terrorists' viewing that video!

Probably only 10% of that number of viewers as they're all probably repeat violence addicts getting off on the stuff.

Those humvees're likely leftovers from US stockpiles after the Iraq war.

This graphic shows suspected targets in Britain including several in east London's Docklands, a hotel at West India Quay, the luxury Sunborn yacht hotel in Royal Victoria Dock and an Ibis hotel nearby

Another one of the alleged plotters, Hakim Nasiri, was described as a 'human bomb' after he was arrested on suspicion of international terrorism.

Nasiri was apprehended at an Italian refugee centre.
He had been granted provisional political asylum on May 5, despite the fact that undercover detectives posing as refugees inside the camp had been trailing him since December.

Also arrested were Afghan Gulistan Ahmadzai, 29, and Pakistani Zulfiqar Amjad, 24, both of whom are suspected of aiding illegal immigration.
The pair still on the run are believed to have fled to Kabul in Afghanistan, after slipping through the net following their European trip in December.

Nasri,...was arrested with Gulistan Ahmadzai and they were detained in relation to an investigation into plans to stage terror attacks in Rome and London

It is understood all five suspects had been granted refugee status in Italy, meaning they would have been able to take advantage of Europe's open borders to move freely around the continent.

Italian police said the migrants had been handed documents equivalent to EU passports which enabled them to travel between countries in the Schengen zone - which does not include the UK.

The Home Office could not explain how Surgul Ahmadzai had been able to travel to Britain, and how long he had stayed.

The ease with which the suspects were able to fly around Europe will fuel claims that the continent's open borders are a security risk.

Italian investigators detained four of the alleged terrorists briefly in December last year, including Nasiri and the pair now on the run.

The group were caught filming in a shopping centre in the southern Italian city of Bari.
Their mobile phones were seized, and police found photos of target sites including the local airport and a shopping centre.
But two days later, Surgul Ahmadzai and Qari Khesta Mir Ahmadzai left the country.
Other suspected targets in Britain included several in east London's Docklands. A hotel at West India Quay was photographed, along with the luxury Sunborn yacht hotel in Royal Victoria Dock and an Ibis hotel nearby.
Pictures of the South Quay footbridge to Canary Wharf and the Premier Inn outside Westfield in Stratford were also discovered.

The cell was allegedly planning other attacks in France, Italy and Belgium, including on Rome's Colosseum and the Circus Maximus - a chariot racing arena now used for music and sporting events.

Pictures of mutilated US soldiers were discovered on the phones, along with recordings of prayers to prepare recruits for martyrdom.

Interesting how these wannabee murderers de-sentitize themselves by constantly viewing and sharing images of mutilated bodies on mass media.

It doesn't matter if the victims portrayed are of their own or of others, they all serve to numb the senses and close off any real empathy with others, if viewed often enough, a common terrorist trick used to "toughen up" potential murderers.

A bit more gratitude towards some fine Italian police work would have been more appropriate.

You are arrested by the police, you are handcuffed, your mobile phone is taken by the police and lo and behold on your mobile phone "evidence" is "found", which enables the police to charge you with terrorism.

When other crimes are suspected of an individual the collected "evidence" is divided in two, I'm thinking of athletics doping charges or drugs supply. The evidence is "tested" and if the defence and the prosecution evidence match, it can be used in a court of law. How can an individual be charged if the "evidence" probably or could have, been tampered with?

Or can only "exceptional" people be relied on to be telling the truth.

Tomorrows story is of his Italian love child, who attends a religious school at the local Mosque.

Don't be so bitter they, probably, had a signed receipt from an ex-CIA boss, the V5C registration certificates and the keys. Also valid insurance documents. Because of the receipt wording the ammunition, ManPads and TOW missiles were withheld. The next day they returned with the correct documentation and loaded all the munitions in other receipted trucks.

During the night the vehicle/munition guards, probably, received employment offers. Conditional on that they would train the I$S$ "freedom fighters/moderate opposition" to use and maintain the trucks, along with running training courses for the new weapons. Some, probably, signed up and went back with them.
