US authorities say they are trying to locate a group of Americans missing in Baghdad, officials say.

The three missing people may have been kidnapped by militias, reports the Arab news channel al-Arabiya, citing its own sources.

"We are aware of reports that American citizens are missing in Iraq.

"We are working with the full co-operation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals," a state department official said.
