UN backs 'all necessary measures' against IS

The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution to "redouble" action against Islamic State, following last week's deadly attacks in Paris.

The French-drafted document urges UN members to "take all necessary measures" in the fight against IS.

IS said it carried out the Paris attacks, in which 130 people died.

It also claimed deadly bombings in Lebanon this month, while an IS-linked group said it downed a Russian passenger plane in October.

The UN resolution 2249 also condemns recent attacks in Sousse, Tunisia, and Ankara, Turkey.

The UN Security Council called on member states to "eradicate the safe haven" IS and other militant groups had established over parts of Iraq and Syria.

The document also stresses that nations should "redouble and co-ordinate their efforts to prevent and suppress terrorist attacks".

However, it does not invoke the UN's Chapter VII, which gives specific legal authorisation for the use of force.

France and Russia have argued that military action is already justifiable because of the right of countries to self-defence.

    Well, of course they will.

You certainly wouldn't expect the illustrious international body to imbibe any true realities when faced with manufactured illusion.

    Pathetic.

Massive Russian air strikes on 'IS targets'

Russia says it has intensified its air raids on what it calls "terrorist" targets in Syria and raised to 69 the number of its aircraft there.

But President Vladimir Putin said the current level of attacks was not enough to defeat so-called Islamic State (IS).

Russia said it fired cruise missiles for a fourth day against IS targets. The long-range missiles were launched from Caspian Sea warships.

Some missiles hit IS in strategically important Deir al-Zour, reports say.

The IS-held town in eastern Syria lies between the IS self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa and territory that the jihadists also control in neighbouring Iraq.

Deir al-Zour province is also rich in oil.

The Russian military says it fired 18 cruise missiles on Friday, destroying seven "Islamist" targets in Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

Col Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for US Central Command, said the Russian air strikes in recent days targeted more IS areas, including the group's oil infrastructure.

Mr Putin said Russia still faced a lot of work. He expressed hope that the next phases would "produce the expected result", but did not clarify what those phases would be.

Later the president's spokesman told the BBC there was no talk of putting troops on the ground in Syria.

Nope, they're fucking themselves. They're turning out to be a bunch of dumbass sandniggers.
They've turned everyone against them. Their money supply is about to get cut off. Anyone supplying them will be an international pariah.
They just got too big for their boots.
It's game on now. Personally I couldn't understand why they weren't stomped on in the first place.

Yes, If they struck out against the West by targeting American and European corporate interests instead of innocent people, they'd be modern day Robin Hoods, heroes to many of the 99% who don't own stocks.
They really are fucking themselves killing indiscriminately.

There are some that might suggest that "the people" are clearly a representative of said governments and corporate interests...

    Guilty by willing/unwilling association?

Usually one cosy's up to one security council veto holder to ensue that you don't end up on the receiving end of these resolutions.... on the rare occasions that the SC have managed unanimity its not been very good news for those on the receiving end

but then IS is a bit of a death cult and are actively looking to be parted from this world. presumably they had not read the field report from jahadi john.

Killing the Chinese Hostage means that IS have managed to upset all 5 permanent members of the UN security council...

...like signing your own death warrant....

...except that the Paris bombings, as well as others, are by sympathisers (aka a bunch of jealous losers)

So the enemy the UN are fighting is not the enemy (or boogeyman as Jeff prefers) that will make Europe or the US safer. For that they need to look at why so many immigrants are less than happy with their lives in UN nations....
