"The ranking, which considers 30 factors related to things like safety, healthcare, educational resources, infrastructure and environment in 140 cities, shows that since 2010 average liveability across the world has fallen by 1%, led by a 2.2% fall in the score for stability and safety. Ongoing conflicts in Syria, Ukraine and Libya have been compounded by terrorist shootings in France and Tunisia as well as civil unrest in America. In Athens, austerity rather than unrest has weighed on the provision of public services, while Kiev saw the sharpest fall over the last 12 months and is now among the ten least liveable cities ranked".

Looks like Australia and Canada are kicking ass.

Auckland? Yeah nice enough I suppose... If you're lucky enough to find a house there.

These lists always only include the more major metropolitan cities but personally I prefer smaller, more laid-back, cities as far as livability goes.

Four Australian cities in the top ten, when education is considered one of the factors?

So how come so many of them are as thick as two short planks?

Personally I liked Hobart more than any other Australian city I've been to. But I've never been to Adelaide.

everybody ive met who has been to adelade told me how quiet it was; first ive seen it it make any top 10
though they all seem to be clustered on probably skewing criteria

Take these surveys with a grain of salt, Melbourne is a city and it's not very big, most people live in the suburbs, which are not part of the city of Melbourne.
So the results only reflect a small portion of the greater urban sprawl.

Was crushed not to see Manila on the list. Great health care here. Just watched a clip on TV of two traffic cops delivering some poor lady's baby on the sidewalk since APEC has blocked off all major roads and the smaller roads are totally clogged. Folks having kids in the street and dying in ambulances thanks to our enlightened President.
As the peasants walked three, five, or ten miles yesterday to try to get to work, the government published the APEC daily menu on the front page of the paper.

Nonsense, James on that basis London is very small with a tiny population. Obviously not the basis of the survey.

I would rather look at top cities for weather or cost of living unless these are part of the 30 factors. Can you please list all 30 factors to give us a better idea of what is being compared?

Adelaide has for many years consistently been in top ten surveys of best places to live.
Yes it is quieter than a lot of other places, some people obviously find this a positive quality.
You can be at the beach, in the hills, in a nightclub, in the outback all within 30 mins max. Pretty good if you ask me.

Yep, just goes to show how surveys can make things look or sound different. Without all the facts you can't judge how valid it is.

One of my colleagues left the office at 5:45pm on Monday evening, walked 200 metres to the car park, got in his car to drive home.
At 7pm, he was just passing the office again.

75 minutes to drive 200 metres.

Another sent a SMS on Tuesday morning that he'd already spent 2 and a half hours driving into work, but was giving up and turning around to go back home.

10 most boring cities

^^Had a good friend who lived there for a couple of years. Said it was the most boring city on earth, and that they rolled up the sidewalks at 8PM. Said it was a ghost town on weekends, as everyone fled.
