Hajj stampede: At least 220 killed in Saudi Arabia

At least 220 people taking part in the Hajj pilgrimage have been killed in a stampede near the Islamic holy city of Mecca, officials in Saudi Arabia say.

Another 450 people were injured in the incident at Mina, between Mount Arafat and Mecca's Grand Mosque.

The stampede occurred as more than a million pilgrims were taking part in the last major rite of the Hajj.

Earlier this month, a crane collapsed at Mecca's Grand Mosque, killing 109 people and injuring some 400 others.

The Hajj had been largely incident-free for the past nine years as a result of a series of safety improvements made the Saudi authorities.

In 2006, a stampede during the symbolic stoning of the devil at Mina left 364 pilgrims dead.

Hajj stampede: At least 717 killed in Saudi Arabia

Hajj stampede: At least 717 killed in Saudi Arabia - BBC News

At least 717 people taking part in the Hajj pilgrimage have been killed in a stampede near the Islamic holy city of Mecca, officials in Saudi Arabia say.
Another 805 people were injured in the incident at Mina, which occurred as two million pilgrims were taking part in the Hajj's last major rite.
They converge on Mina to throw stones at pillars representing the devil.
Preparations for the Hajj were marred when a crane collapsed at Mecca's Grand Mosque this month, killing 109 people.
    'Sudden surge'
Mina, a large valley about 5km (3 miles) from Mecca, is the location of the three Jamarat pillars and also houses more than 160,000 tents where pilgrims spend the night during the pilgrimage.

    Hajj: Previous tragedies
2006: 364 pilgrims die in a crush at foot of Jamarat Bridge in Mina
1997: 340 pilgrims are killed when fire fuelled by high winds sweeps through Mina's tent city
1994: 270 pilgrims die in a stampede during the stoning ritual
1990: 1,426 pilgrims, mainly Asian, die in a stampede in an overcrowded tunnel leading to holy sites
1987: 402 people die when security forces break up an anti-US demonstration by Iranian pilgrims
Fascists dress in black and go around telling people what to do, whereas priests... more drink!

Really, because a lot of people would just call it fuckwits in charge of crowd control.

It's not like they haven't had enough goes to get it right.

Perhaps if they let a few non-mussies in there to help out they might get it right.

Correction. All the above but if they didn't believe in that religious claptrap they wouldn't be there. Ultimately the fault of those scumbags who promote that rubbish for their own nasty ends.

overcome by religious hysteria as if possessed by spirits these people throw all caution to the wind and enter situations that if they had complete control of their faculties they would not dream of doing. to die at the haj is a great honour for them, as allah has promised they will be able to enjoy everlasting paedo minge in the afterlife.

i once went to one of these gatherings of the clan in india. a hindu festival celebrating something or other, about 5 million nutters all racing to be the first to get naked and jump into a river. ive never been so scared in my life. worse than being on the terraces at man. u versus leeds united in the eighties.

Hajj stampede was caused by 'fate & destiny'

    Haj stampede 'beyond human control'

MINA, SAUDI ARABIA — Saudi Arabia's top religious leader says a stampede which killed 717 pilgrims was beyond human control, official media reported on Saturday, the final day of this year's haj.

The stampede was the worst disaster in a quarter-century to strike the annual event and drew fierce criticism of the Saudi authorities' handling of safety, particularly from regional rival Iran.

"You are not responsible for what happened", Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh told Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef in a meeting in Mina on Friday, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

"As for the things that humans cannot control, you are not blamed for them. Fate and destiny are inevitable," Sheikh told the prince, who ...

This is the sixth time there have been fatalities associated with the stoning of the devil thing, see wiki : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incidents_during_the_Hajj

As we are told it is no fault of man if I believed in gods and devils I would be inclined to suggest that devils dont like having stones chucked at them and were showing their displeasure.

unlucky, far from it, they won the lottery twice, they and their families would consider themselves very lucky indeed to have died at mecca. hand chosen for death by allah the merciful, they hit the jackpot.

a place in muslim heaven with everlasting pussy and some nice saudi compo for the relatives.

sounds like a good result to me.
