Seems a bit harsh for a commercial burglary,
not harsh enough for these toerags who are career criminals.

10 years is the maximum for this offence, they got 3 off for the guilty pleas and they will serve 3.5 years.

a lot of the loot has yet to be recovered and many jewellery businesses who stored stock in the vault over a long holiday weekend went bankrupt.

Wow! In America these guys would be facing at least 20 years for a crime like that.

Why were they not insured then?

Not defending these blokes, but lets put this into perspective, whatever they stole is vanishingly small in comparison to what the likes of investment bankers such as Fred "the shred" Goodwin managed to loose through their incompetence (and came close to crashing the UK banking system, for which UK tax payers are now liable). What was his punishment, he had his knighthood rescinded and negotiated a small cut in his pension payout.

This is a perfect example of how the establishment demonstrates to everyone, if you get caught stealing the rich mans trinkets you will feel the full force of the law (even though these individuals pleaded guilty, the judge still saw fit to gave them the maximum possible sentences the guidelines would allow him to do so). Conversely it would appear to be quite acceptable for the rich friends of the establishment to nearly bankrupt the UK via all sorts of dubious financial activities designed to maximize short term profits at everyone else's expense, and when it goes pop, they walk away from the problem with little or no repercussions

A few of the gang said 'thank you your honour' when sentence was passed.

    That's gotta be a first.

Don't think they have given up on recovering the rest of the loot.

It could be a life sentence for a couple of them. One is already looking at death with cancer.

Plus these guys never hurt or killed anyone in the robbery.
    Well the victims maybe.

The police have to take some of the blame for not doin a proper search when alarm was sounded.
