David Cameron gives backing to £15million Thatcher museum

David Cameron gives backing to £15million Thatcher museum

The Prime Minister said the ambitious project, to be modelled on the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California, would “ensure [Lady Thatcher’s] legacy lives on”.

His public backing is likely to boost support significantly from other ministers and leading figures for the Margaret Thatcher Library, to be based in or close to Westminster, and which will run training courses and exchange programmes with overseas students.

It will also house artefacts from her time in power - 1979 to 1990 - likely to include a selection of her suits and handbags.

Mr Cameron said: “During her life Margaret Thatcher believed in action - and this memorial will produce real results for generations to come.

“I am delighted that young people will be able to come to the Thatcher Centre and learn about her achievements, and ensure her legacy lives on.”

A fitting artefact to have in the museum would be a sack of coal.

On the other hand Auschwitz is also a museum.

Thatcher was a lover of the private sector. Let them pay for it or leave it to the likes of Madame Tussauds to cover a mannequin with one of her suits. Any academic and political stuff can be left to libraries for universities to discuss. No need to waste public money on such a silly project.

I would suggest they have a mannequin of Thatcher and Reagan, with maggie giving Ronnie a blow job.

Nah would have to be Ronnie muffing Maggie due to the fact Maggie wore the trousers in that relationship.

Yes, and a car and a set of stainless steel cutlery.

Although by the time they've finished it, you'll be lucky if you can find any of them that aren't stamped "Made in China".

What you fail to mention, the unions agreed to the pit closures because they were economically unviable.

If you add up the figures from 1947 to 1997 you see the real picture??– 345 pits were closed under Labour governments but 597 went under the Tories.

A total of 235,000 mining jobs were lost under Labour but 458,000 under the Conservatives.

Thanks to Tony Blair a Labour leader, in today's Britain those pits would be worked by Eastern Europeans. Labour made sure that your jobs will never ever be secure again.

It's modern day Britain that I and My fellow countrymen have to deal with on a daily basis that is priority.
    Hence My comment.
What I really wanted to say on the subject, is that Cameron and the Tories are throwing every dirty trick in the book at the electorate, lies lies and more damned promises, this is an election promise from a desperate Prime Minister.
    It's never going to happen.

Thatcher was Prime Minister for 11 years. She did not pull the UK out of the EU.

Correct but no way in hell would she have signed up to the numerous treaties her successors did. Was just a free trade area when she was around which is all the British people have ever been asked if they want to be a part of.

Mrs. Thatcher transformed Britain from being sick man of Europe, to todays most prosperous and economically most successful nation of Europe. She and Reagan alone forced down brutal military dictatorship. threatening to destroy the World, Russia. It is a minor thing some museum will built for her. In the future you may find far bigger monuments built for remembering her and her achievements. Not to mention Falkands who "some trusted men" wanted to leave behind,

I Salute you, Mrs Thatcher - Commander of British Forces, who never let her country down
