I spent about 30 minutes in the cockpit of a Virgin Atlantic 747-400 simply by asking. I was taking flying lessons in a Cessna and had already soloed. It's was interesting, and the pilots were very polite and seemed to enjoy talking about planes. Just a damn shame stuff like this cannot happen anymore because of a few idiots. The pilots my family know really hate being locked in the cockpit, before they could eat dinner and walk around the first class section where you meet some interesting passengers.
