A FAMILY say their receipt shows they left a tip for a waiter who said they wrote a note refusing to tip her because she is gay.
Waitress Dayna Morales made headlines when she said she was denied a tip and received an offensive note slamming her "gay lifestyle" after serving a family at a New Jersey restaurant.
Ms Morales, a former US Marine now working as a waiter at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, said the family refused to tip her and wrote a note on the receipt saying: "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I don't agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life."
However, the family have now come forward with a copy of the receipt, which they say shows they left a tip and did not write a note, NBC4 reports.
The couple showed a receipt that appears to be the same time and date, for the same $US93.55 amount, but with a $US18 tip and no offensive note, NBC4 reports. Their credit card statement also appears to show they were charged for the meal and tip.
The couple, who wished to remain anonymous, say their receipt was used as hoax. In addition, they say the wife is left-handed, while the slash blocking out the tip line on the receipt appears to be made from the right.
