A US student has told police he killed his room-mate, cut up the body and ate part of the victim's brain and his whole heart, according to reports.

Alexander Kinyua of Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested on Tuesday after police searched his house following the discovery by his brother of the victim's head and hands, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Kinyua, a 21-year-old student at Morgan State University, confessed on Thursday to murdering and dismembering his room-mate, Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, and then eating parts of his brain followed by his entire heart, the Sun said.

The motive was unclear, but Kinyua was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday.

The grisly murder caps an especially gruesome week of crimes in North America.

Interpol has launched a manhunt for a Canadian porn star suspected of dismembering his boyfriend and making a video of the murder, while a young man in Miami was shot dead on Saturday as he gnawed off the face of a homeless man.

Mr Kinyua must be watching his weight as he only went for parts of the brain, which was only a titbit in the first place. Probably why he had to eat the whole heart afterwards.

I wonder if this is going to be a new trend. If body parts start appearing on a McDonalds menu we'll have another reason to avoid the place.

There is certainly a behind the scenes story here that is being overwhelmed with the sensational news about the cannibalism. Both men would seem to be spoiled children of the African elite with anger management issues and likely serious mental problems.

The perp is the son of a Physics Professor from Kenya at the university he attended. He was kicked out of the ROTC program and suspended from school last December after a tantrum but was allowed back after a meeting with school officials. Last month he attacked and almost killed a guy with a baseball bat but was bailed out just days before the murder. He is well known as full on crazy. The ROTC NCO labeled him a "Virginia Tech waiting to happen".

The victim is the son of a Ghana banker and has been in the US for some time. He has not gone to school since he was convicted of and sentenced in 2008 to year and a half in jail for sex offense, assault, harassment, stalking and telephone misuse for making repeated calls to a woman. He was fighting deportation and was invited to stay at the house by the father of the perp.

Sounds like two psychos that did not get along mixed in with some sort of African tribal rituals.
