It was certainly very offensive and cruel remarks made by the young man and many people no doubt would agree that he should be punished but 56 days in prison is quite ludicrous given that young violent offenders guilty of beating someone almost to a pulp for no apparent reason can escape a custodial sentence.
The public should rightly be concerned when a judicial system considers the use of words to be a more serious offence than physical actions against a victim.

It is also interesting to note that his reported remarks could hardy be called 'incitement', they were merely statements. To my knowledge he was not stirring up racial hatred which the legal act was designed to deal with.

The Racial and Religious Hatred Act had many high profile actors, writers and comedians (Rowan Atkinson) who lobbied parliament to oppose the bill mainly on the religious aspect on restricting artists from using religion in a critical way. Therefore the offence of using insulting language was dropped from the Act.

I doubt very much that there will a national outcry over this young man's sentencing although i believe it to be very similar to his outburst, manifestly irrational.

Stacey's crime wasn't the racially offensive tweets, it was the blasphemy he commited in the minds of those who shape society. Football is the new religion of the British plebs subscribed by the British elite, and the players arethe prophets or priestly caste, there to be worshiped. Sending this guy to prison for fining him isn't the scary thing, having him villified all over the media, and having it follow him around the rest of his life, for fucking around on the internet is scary. Are you telling me all these people really give a flying fuck about some guy who plays a fucking game? They don't, it is fake sympathy, they are just trying to fit in and look cool, just like the idiots supporting the Kony2012 crap.

I'm shocked. I agree with most of that.

''Stan Collymore, an ex English football was just one of many Twitter users who reported Liam Stacey’s comments to the police.''

Might that be the same Stan Collymore who used to batter his then girlfriend Ulrika Jonsson punching her and kicking her in the head ?

Ulrika who ''won a court order in 2002 banning footballer Stan Collymore from selling an explicit video in which she was said to feature.''

So that's the kind of scum that 'polices' Twitter looking for things to take offence to and then calling the police ....
