If they were not convincing liars they would not get elected in the first place. They are the biggest con artists on the planet.
If a private business did not fulfill the commitment they made at the time of sale then they could be sued.
Politicians however will promise anything and everything with no real intention of delivering on their promises.
Only an egotistical individual these days enters politics. The really smart individuals earn incredible sums of money so why bother with the cut and thrust of politics.

In days gone by there was a marked difference between the major parties in Australia, you were either a Labor man or a Liberal.
Now the difference is so minor and they change their tune to get elected.
I have no time for Gillard, Rudd or Abbot, none of them have the Leadership skills that one could respect.

I always liked Tony Abbott even back in the Howard days. I also like KRudd.

Abbott does not seem to be popular with the electorate though, but the arrogance of the the labour caucus to first stab Rudd in the back and then fail to re-elect him in the face of overwhelming public opinion is staggering. The party deserves to be bundled out at the next opportunity.

Gillard only scraped in by a ginger fud hair the last time so she can't really have any complaints if she ends up back on the opposition benches.

I hope Abbott gets an absolute majority too and sticks it to those cocky independents. They think they rule the roost cause of the balance of power thing.

Agreed. And now what is their party line ? That the electorate does not understand the leadership battles.

How fuggin arrogant are they ?

'The world will miss Kevin Rudd'

EAST Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta has voiced concerns about the future direction of Australia's foreign aid program, in the wake of ructions within the Labor government and Kevin Rudd's departure as foreign minister.

Dr Ramos-Horta, who is attempting to win a second presidential term, was shocked when Mr Rudd was dumped in 2010 in favour of Julia Gillard and says his departure as foreign minister last week will be greeted with disappointment in broader diplomatic circles.

Mr Rudd was soundly defeated by Ms Gillard in Monday's leadership ballot and will now remain on the back bench.
"It's a tremendous loss for Australia not to have Kevin Rudd either as prime minister or foreign minister," Dr Ramos-Horta said.
"He has a brilliant mind, highly regarded around the world."
"I know from first-hand experience how in Washington, in Europe, Korea, in Japan, China, people were shocked when he was ousted (as prime minister)."

But Dr Ramos-Horta said he was now more worried about the broader implications of Mr Rudd's departure as foreign minister and what he described as the current "turmoil" in Australian politics in terms of Australia's foreign aid policy.
It was Mr Rudd who introduced the policy of growing Australia's foreign aid program to 0.5 per cent of gross national income by 2015, and he was seen as the key driver of the policy, as prime minister and foreign minister.

East Timor, as one of the world's youngest countries, has been a major beneficiary of the policy as it struggles to cope with developmental challenges.
"People respect the choices of the party, but yet they cannot but regret that they no longer have such a capable intellectual interlocutor to deal with some of the pressing issues in the region and in the world like climate change, like trade issues," Dr Ramos-Horta said.

"People would like to see Australia lead other countries in development assistance."
"With Kevin Rudd not there, with the turmoil in Australia, people are worried what is the direction of Australian foreign aid, what is direction of Australian foreign security policy."

Prime Minister Gillard is expected to reshuffle her front bench as early as Friday.
Dr Ramos-Horta is facing significant challenges of his own, with the East Timorese presidential race expected to be a close contest.

While it was thought initially Dr Ramos-Horta's main rival would again be Fretilin's Francisco Guterres, whom he defeated in 2007 in a second-round run-off, it now appears the strongest challenge could come from the country's former armed forces chief.

Like the other two leading candidates, Taur Matan Ruak, who resigned as head of the armed forces in 2011, was also a former resistance fighter during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor.
East Timorese will vote on March 17.

I think Peter Costello should come out of retirement and lead the Labor Party.

It would then be fitting that Australian politics was being run by Abbott & Costello.

    Here is the Deal

Get rid of Gillard or lose power at the next election you sanctimonious twats .

Voters have emphatically ended Labor's rule in Queensland, effectively reducing the trounced government to the status of minor party.

So comprehensive was the LNP election victory under Campbell Newman that Labor has been virtually erased from the Queensland electoral map.

At least nine of Premier Anna Bligh's ministers, including Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser, were unceremoniously shown the door.

Campbell Newman and LNP Crush Queensland Labor

    Murdoch calls for Australian elections
    28/04/2012

Australian-born media tycoon Rupert Murdoch said there was a "desperate" need for elections in his home country following a sexual harassment scandal that rocked parliament this week.

Australian-born media tycoon Rupert Murdoch (pictured on April 26) on Saturday said there was a "desperate" need for elections in his home country following a sexual harassment scandal that rocked parliament this week.

News Corp. chairman Murdoch, who this week admitted a cover-up over phone hacking at his now-defunct British tabloid News of the World but downplayed his political influence at a London inquiry, said Australia needed change.

"Dramatic, slimy events in Australian politics," Murdoch, 81, wrote on microblogging site Twitter on Saturday.

"Country desperately needs election to get fresh start."

Australia's parliament was this week hit by sexual harassment allegations against the speaker, Peter Slipper, who was elevated to the top lower house job by the ruling Labor party in a bid to shore up its fragile hold on power.

Slipper, married and an ordained Anglican priest, stood aside from his role on Sunday after allegations he harassed former aide James Ashby, 33, with explicit text messages, unwanted advances and inappropriate comments.

Labor failed to win an overall majority in the 2010 elections and, with the loss of Slipper, has a voting majority of just one seat.

The next elections are not due until 2013.

Murdoch is the dominant player in Australia's media market, with vast holdings including 70 percent of the nation's newspapers, and Labor ministers have accused his titles of openly campaigning against the government.

PM fires up at 'sexist, misogynist' Abbott
    Julian Drape
    Tue Oct 9 2012

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has accused Opposition Leader Tony Abbott of being sexist and a misogynist, in a blistering counter-attack after the Mr Abbott called for Speaker Peter Slipper to be sacked "immediately".

Mr Abbott wants the Speaker removed, saying he is "no longer a fit and proper person to uphold the dignity of the federal parliament".

He told parliament on Tuesday that Mr Slipper was disqualified from the role "by the undenied, uncontradicted facts" that had emerged during a sexual harassment claim brought by the Speaker's ex-staffer James Ashby.

They included "truly gross references to female genitalia" and one showed a "clear bias" because it abused Liberal frontbencher Sophie Mirabella, Mr Abbott told parliament.

But Ms Gillard said the opposition leader had just discovered sexism because he wanted to use it as a battering ram against Mr Slipper.

She said his hypocrisy and double-standards should not be tolerated.

"I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man, I will not," Ms Gillard said, pointing at Mr Abbott.

    "Not now, not ever."

She slammed Mr Abbott for his previous statements about abortion and women doing the ironing.

She also accused him of cat-calling her in parliament and stating she should, politically speaking, "make an honest woman of herself".

Ms Gillard also attacked Mr Abbott for standing next to a sign at an anti-carbon tax rally that read "Ditch the witch" and another which accused her of being former Australian Greens leader Bob Brown's "bitch".

"I was offended by those things - misogyny, sexism, every day from this leader of the opposition."

She said she was offended by the content of Mr Slipper's texts because she was always offended by sexism.

But parliament should wait for the Federal Court to deliver its judgement before MPs made up their minds about the Speaker, she said.

"People will then have an opportunity to make up their minds with the fullest information available to them."

"(So) this parliament today should reject this motion."

Earlier, Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop said she would "personally struggle" to show appropriate respect for Mr Slipper if he again presided over question time.

"How the women in this house are expected to show respect to the Speaker when we are now aware of the views he holds of women is beyond comprehension," she said.

Mr Slipper left the Liberal party late in 2011 to take up the Speaker's chair, giving the minority Gillard government an extra buffer in the lower house.

He stood aside from the role in April pending an investigation into allegations he misused taxi vouchers.
