Bangsaen


Bangsaen is about 45kms from Pattaya, 10kms from Chonburi and about 100kms from Bangkok, the next beach along from Bang Saen is Ang Sila, Ang Sila is famed for its stone ware products and also has some nice open air Thai style sea food restaurants on the sea front.

The beach in Bangsaen has many food and drink vendors selling the usual Thai foods, at weekends it is packed out with people from Bangkok taking a mini holiday, during the week you will mainly have the beach to yourself if you are after a getting away from it all type holiday.

Bangsaen has a Tesco Lotus and also a Carrefour with the usual sort of restaurants associated with Carrefour inside, ie KFC, Mc Donalds, the Carrefour is located on Sukhumvit Road.

Things to do or see in and around Bang Saen

Take a drive to Ang Sila to see the stone ware products on sale, or have a Thai sea food lunch over looking the bay.

Bang Saen monkey mountain
Called khao sam muek in Thai, more of a hill than a mountain, you can buy food to feed the monkeys with, try not to tease them as they can be a bit aggressive.


Saithip Butterfly Farm
Nearer Sri Racha than Bang Saen but only a 20 minute drive the butterfly farm is worth an afternoon of your time.


Wat Koh Loy
This is in Sri Racha and is accessed by a 1.5km long causeway, has quite a nice mixture of different style buildings and Temples.


Khao Kheow Zoo
Again near Sri Racha and about a 20 minute drive from Bang saen, nice selection of animals in quite nice surroundings.


Nong Mon Market
Nong Mon Market is in between the Bangsaen turn offs and is quite famous for its sun dried sea food and other traditional Thai foods.

Sri Racha Tiger Zoo


Bangsaen Marine Mueseum and Aquariums
Visit the marine aquarium and museum on the campus of Srinakharinwirot University.
Open from 8.30am to 4.30pm everyday, except Monday.
Has over 180 different species of sea animals in 44 different tanks, for foreigners it is 100baht to get in unless you have a work permit or Thai driving license, then you will get the Thai price of 30baht.

Songkran in Bangsaen
Every year all over Thailand Songkran is celebrated, this is the Thai New Year, in Bangsaen as well as the normal celebrations of throwing water over everything that moves they also have a sand Stupa building competition, basically these are the biggest sand castles your ever likely to see and it is worth a visit if your in the area.

BangSaen annual speed festival
Held every year in early November over several days where the streets of Bangsaen are turned into a race track, there are many different events and shows each year.

Bang Saen Restaurants and Bars

Bangsaen has many Thai sea food restaurants along the beach road and many food stalls actually next to the beach, for English or international food there are places like the Thai Scandanavia Food and Drink Restaurant, there is a small snack bar coffee shop attached to Bangsaen Resort Hotel. you can read about some of the other restaurants here.

During the week Bangsaen is a quiet sleepy town, but come the weekend it can get packed, the most racey place in Bangsaen is called the Galaxy, this has coyote dancers and is on the corner of Sukhumvit Road as you come into Bangsaen, travelling further down the road you will also find some Thai pubs and some beer type gardens, more can be read about them here.

Just off of Bangsaen Beach Road around Soi 1, Soi 2 and Soi 3 you will find many guesthouses, these generally start at 150baht for 3 hours and from 250baht per night for a fan room, or 300baht per night for an aircon room, you can read some reviews of them and see pictures of them here.
