'Go to First New Post' button fekked again!

Can someone stop Xzyte doing updates every 5 minutes, as it feks up the Go to First New Post function, even on posts that are fairly recent. There's nothing worse (well, maybe English "sport") than wanting to read the most recent additions to a hot thread and being dumped at the beginning of it, then spending the next 5 mins trying to find where the new posts start from.

Or is it just me?

I even get dumped midway through threads that I've posted in (my posts are a few pages after the place where the Go to First New Post button puts me).

I have given this much thought, then I gave up that idea so spoke to xzyte, the odds are it is packet loss and the pages are not loading up properly.

Packet loss???? due to what. Unusual if they are losing packets at such a rate. Odd since I've seen no actual posts with lost packets that I know of.

Loss of packets usually means jumbled characters doesn't it. I'm no exspurt but.......

If it was packet loss would all my 'read' cookies be gone? I'm assuming they use cookies to keep track.

Nope. Complete bollocks.

It still does it every time the forum software is updated.

Any threads over 3 or 4 days without any new posts and I get taken to the beginning of the thread. It's most upsetting.

It's always done that for me. I'd just assumed it was par for the course. Now I know it's not I'm both angry and disillusioned!

I have the same problem with some of the threads. I rely on this "view first unread post" button in various other forums I read on a regular basis (such as Brighthand Forums). Sometimes in this forum the button works, but other times I end up at the first post and I have to try to figure out which post I last read by myself - a real pain in the ass. I'd be greatful if this feature worked properly and consistently.

I think there was a big server update yesterday and a reboot of everything, also it only works for about 7 days, ie you have to have visited the thread within the last 7 days.
