suspect you are just pressing the button on the machine as opposed to using the software on your computer .

Scanning by using HP LaserJet Scan (Windows)
    1. In the Hewlett-Packard program group, select Scan to start HP LaserJet Scan.
NOTE Pressing Start Scan on the all-in-one control panel also starts HP LaserJet Scan.
    2. Choose the action that you want to accomplish.
    ● Select a destination to begin scanning immediately.
    ● Select Scan after prompting me for settings to specify additional settings before you
    begin scanning.

    ● Select Set up the device to program the Scan To button.
    3. Click OK.
NOTE OK should indicate the action that you want to accomplish.

I'm working through that but when I press " scan " it just scans straight up into My Documents without giving me choice of action as it states in step 2.

For sure this is my problem right there but still cant get past it.

I'll have some breakfast and have another crack.

If not and you are in a rush you could always press control and print screen and paste into paint

Once I get this process sorted and can get quality into my scans I plan to upload all my hard copy photos pre digital camera era.

I got some bursters from a life time of travel.

The black vertical and horizontal lines indicates that you are scanning the whole area and not only the photo.
You can adjust the scan area when you are in preview scan mode before doing the final scan, move the crosshair with your mouse to the corner of the photo.

You are resizing the whole scan in including the white background.

You need to Cut the scan so the whole photograph is the image with no border

Alright I understand and must be very close to cracking it.
my picture is surrounded by the vert and horiz lines. Ive got the crosshairs and moved to the corner but cant get the lines to wrap around the picture.

I trying to drag it and other manovers but no go.

Ok then whats the next move once Ive got the crosshairs on the corner of the picture. ?

Will be well worth it once I crack it. Thanks.
