    Fffffreeeezing!

My system keeps freezing, often at bootup but once running it survives for anything from seconds to up to about an hour before simply locking up and requiring a reboot. No discernible pattern with mouse moves or too many progs open.

Could be a software or memory conflict, or for that matter anything else.

Any ideas? Sure would like to be able to use my puter without that persistent tension in the back of the neck.

    Tia

Have a look in Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer, for any messages.

    RDN:

Thanks. Not a clue what these things mean, but the messages are as follows:

    Under application:
    18 errors, source application
    116 warnings, source WinMgmt

    Under system:
    2 errors, source DCOM
    8 errors, source W32Time
    2 errors, source atapi
    55 warnings, source Tcpip
    1 warning, source W32Time
    1 warning, source USER32

    Nothing under security.

Any ideas what to do from here? Tia.

Take out the memory chips, give the connectors a good clean & re-insert them.

Let us know how you get on.

Done, gave the connectors on chip and slot a good clean, still fffreezing, still random, not as often as before but it's only been a few hours.

Could it be the mem itself, and if so how best to check?

Diaw: Thanks a heap, had another go at the connectors - this time on both chips - now running perfect.
