I'll rephrase it.

A pathological liar assumes that everyone lies. Even if the other person doesn't naturally lie.

or ...

A man 'working back late at the office' in reality, is having an affair with his PA.
That same man's wife is home late after going out with the girls.
He assumes that she's had/having an affair when, in reality she's not, she's just been out with the girls.
He assumes that what he would do in the circumstances, she would do also.
