Any problems with the Teak Door server? Visual route says 100% loss (?). No problems with Thaivisa.
Is it my ISP's DNS server?
Any suggestions for a better DNS server?

no problems here
none here either RDN.
RDN, do you know how to do a domain lookup query from the command line?
Problems every now and then..
Torrent throughput is also shitty, and from what I can see TT&T has severe routing problems.
It's either connection with nodes in N America or with nodes in Europe.
Not both at the same time.
And TD is slow when N America torrent nodes are slow.
Well, here's a traceroute to my server which is in Texas (USA). I guess they're routing through Europe since the cable breaks in Taiwan....
(I stopped it before it was done because it is a shared IP address and the traceroute will never actually get there....)traceroute to mgnewman.com (82.195.142.75), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

But that cable must have been repaired since long.Originally Posted by Anonymous Coward

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to shut down Azureus, in case it was using up all my bandwidth - unlikely, I know - and then thought a bit more... and shut down "PeerGuardian 2". And that fixed it!
So there's an IP address in PeerGuardian's database that is on the route to TeakDoor.
Now, I don't want to stop using Azureus or PeerGuardian or stop going to TD. So how do I find out why PG2 is blocking TD? I'll do some more poking around....
PG2 is not blocking TD for me so I guess it was just a coincidence.
And, as far as I know, PG2 is only blocking incoming connects..
But the loss of DNS is a typical sign of either an overloaded router or an overloaded ISP. My connection was very flaky this afternoon, but returned to normal a few hours ago.
You could run your own local DNS cache, FastCache or SimpleDNS are two such programs, and you will then at least get DNS resolve for the url's you use to visit.
I just shutdown, powered off and rebooted - had the same problem.
I checked PG2 logs - "Pinellas County School District" (207.150.190.18) is the problem! My PG2 is set up to block 4 lists - Educational, Government, P2P and Spyware.
I guess Pinellas County School is on the same server as TD, so I unblocked it.
Let's hope the RIAA, MPAA, etc. aren't using the school as a cover...

I get quite a lot of problems with TT&T; it's awfully slow and many times cannot find a site at the first attempt.
Here, it was very good until the optocable break around xmas, something it seems it hasn't recovered from yet..Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

Shouldn't have to be so, last month the international bandwidth was upgraded from 12.25 to 15.71 GBit, one of the bigger upgrades in Thailands internet history..
In case you didn't read my last post, the problem has been solved - PeerGuardian was blocking the TD server because a School (Pinellas County School District) shares the same IP address.
All OK now.
Ok, good for you but I'm still not satisfied with the current performance of TT&T Internet.Originally Posted by RDN
I was just thinking yesterday that TT&T had been problem free for the past month or so.
I have never had so few problems or so been so quick.
Btw, I tried to run a speed test earlier today.
The result was disastrous, and they identified me as being in HongKong.
My google has also changed from google.co.th to google.co.hk..
What the fuck are those wankers at TT&T doing ?
The last time they had a DNS server problem, I decided to change my bookmarks for Google to an IP number (72.14.205.104) so I don't have that problem any more.
I also sometimes get a download speed of over 900 kbps on my 1 Mb TT&T link, but only when I go to big sites (eg. Microsoft) to download something. And don't forget, I am in Phuket - the "Telecomms hub of SE Asia". Bwa, ha, ha, ha!
I just did some speed tests:
ADSL Thailand - 858 / 417
myspeed.streamguys - 203/75
speakeasy.net, Seattle - 632/344
speakeasy.net, SanFran - 755/383
speakeasy.net, LA - 775/377
speakeasy.net, Dallas - 314/373
speakeasy.net, Chicago - 225/367
speakeasy.net, San Fran - 389/386
speakeasy.net, LA - 566/379
speakeasy.net, Washington DC - 207/370
speakeasy.net, NYC NY - 758/369
Not too bad. Of course, if I was buying a car that was supposed to do 120 mph, I wouldn't be very happy if it did only 60. But this is the internet we're talking about and this is Thailand. (TiT)
