Gotta hand it to Mendy. He got out of LOS just in time to miss the heatwave.
Gotta tell ya Snubs, heat versus cold? I will take heat anyday. Nothing worse then frozen fingers, ears and toes and snot.
Plus no sun and always adding clothes to go out and taking it all off when you get back. Here it's HOT. Get up and put on my O'Neil Hybrid shorts and T shirt and enjoy the day. Flop in the pool to cool a bit.
^ A bit overdressed?
If it was a real heatwave you should just be wearing your silk wicking boxers and nothing else!
I prefer heat over cold but it's really nice to escape the heat and humidity for a while... and we have plenty of sun at the moment although I see it rarely due to my night shift. I wouldn't want to live in the cold permanently but it's a nice relief for a while... and I get paid to boot.
Not me. I like the cold and a nice rainstorm. A big reason why I probably never made it to LOS. I do not do well in heat and humidity, but a nice chilly day, yes please.
LOL, the weather in Napa in 9 days is highs in the seventies. To me, that is nice, comfortable weather.
Ya no, thanks.
I was worried it might be Candyman's colonoscopy by Blackpool Hospital for chronic Onanism
The rest are wonderful views of places I recall from my Scandi days, Thais don't realize the thaw leads to slush and grit or as Scots call it character, At that time every farm had a still , I guess harder to track in 1970s even then taxes were mouth watering.
Dry heat with low humidity. I can actually handle that.
No its not. High humidity is a nightmare. I dealt with it on business trips I took to the US south. Always glad when I got away from that hell.
For a like a month in August. Come on dude.
After hot dish like Curry Kapitan and a snaps chaser

I agree, Hot as hell here in Khon Kaen also. We got a bit of a reprieve today with 38 degrees , if anyone can consider 38 a reprieve, but the forecast is 40 and no rain for the rest of the week.
Air-condition 24/7 is The way to go, If we has not scheduled a Family reunion trip abroad for June, we would be going to the US or Greece for a couple of months .
I am still tempted to go for a month until this heat breaks
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
That sounds nice, VC. On any boat I've ever worked on everyone has to serve themselves, even the skipper. In fact the only time I've ever seen food served up was during Covid when, if anyone tested positive, they were confined to their cabin in which case the food was delivered.
Why so Mike? This is my office which I sadly have to share but we have a porthole each!
Yes Katie, like a liver pate. Goes nice on toast with a slice of tomato and plenty of pepper.
OK, OK, she can use the aircon! I just don't want her getting used to it, that's all. Maybe I'll bring in a new family rule that we can use aircon when the temperature hits 40?
Electricity ain't cheap, ya know.
I've recently had three very good friends retire from work. They were ten or so years older than me and it's strange, after spending months on end working offshore with them over the past three decades all of a sudden I never see them any more. And when I think about it, maybe I will never see them again? It makes you think.
They seem to live in far flung places as well so it's not as if a visit is easy... one lives in Samut Prakan, who strangely enough is easy for me to meet up with during my Bangkok trips, one lives in Great Yarmouth of all places, FFS... I mean, WTF ever visits Great Yarmouth? And one lives on the island of Valderøy, just offshore from Ålesund on the west coast of Norway.
Rick originally came from Banff, north of Aberdeen, but married a stewardess from Valderøy and moved there in the 90s. I worked regularly with him for 20 odd years but after he started working onshore for AkerBP we lost contact apart from the occasional pint in Stavanger if I was passing through. Even though we are good friends I doubt we have met up for eight or nine years or so and it's been at least three years since we exchanged any kind of communications. But yesterday we were passing by Valderøy.
This is the island of Valderøy...
And this is Ålesund on the mainland, nestled at the foot of that big mountain. A tunnel connects the two, of course.
When I realised we were about to sail past Valderøy I sent my mate the first Whatsapp message in a few years just in case... and he was home! No doubt enjoying a couple of Sunday afternoon drinks. He said he'd look out for us.
I think Rick's house is one of these...
Or maybe one of these... it's hard to wave out when you don't know which house someone lives in.
I sent a few pictures and Rick sent a couple back... it looks like his trampoline has seen better days.
And past we sailed...
If you're wondering, I am the blob on the right on the helideck.
And that was it.
Bye Rick... see you again in another eight years, or maybe I'll remember a Whatsapp message for Christmas...

Just curious if they all retired at 65 or so ? Or some earlier ?Mendy said

You said something about how everyone smoked offshore back in the day. But what is the policy on vaping now ?

I never use AC.
We have it upstairs in the bedrooms but I prefer the windows open with ceiling and pedestal fans on. I do get a bit sweaty at times though... and I often seem to end up sleeping alone.
But that's better than getting aircon head.
They retired somewhere between 65 and 70, which is the maximum age allowed to go offshore in Norway.
I was hoping to retire much younger than how things seem to be panning out. I reckon I'll be working for at least another ten years, probably more.
Smoking is confined to outside (unless we're working close to platforms) and a couple of designated smoking rooms and I would imagine that vaping is treated the same. I've never actually seen anyone vaping offshore... I think most offshore workers have more self respect.
