Better you give New Zealand a pass. It's a high-cost/low-wage place. For example, expect to pay the equivalent of US$200 for a pair of Asics, Adidas, or Nike trainers. Books are very expensive. Petrol for your car is running at NZ$2.10/litre, about US$6.50 a gallon. Home prices in the main cities are obscene. If you want to live in Auckland you'd need about half-million dollars to get a place that you'd want to live in. Goods and Services tax (GST) of 15% is loaded onto everything, yes, everything.
Wages aren't that flash. However, if you are highly skilled and can get in with the old boys club (good fucking luck with that 'cos it ain't likely to happen if you are a Yank) you may make a good fist of it.
Sounds like NZ might be a good place to have a import company. Especially for shoes in the U.S. you can buy Asics Addidas for around $30 a pair.

I heard places like NZ and OZ are major import nations which raises cost for the simple things.
