Throw a spanner in the works.

Walk into a casualty of any hospital and tell them you just tried to hang yourself. When they ask why, tell them about your financial problems.

You'll have social workers bending over backwards to assist you and the debts will be forfeited.

Remember, debt collectors are NOT the council. They bought the debts and have already picked up the insurance on your non-payment.

You coughing up the cash to them is merely their bonus, and you'd be a complete mug to do so.

For a nominal sum you can register with Skype and give yourself a pretend telephone number abroad (Thailand for instance), which can be redirected to any number you like. Call them up and lask them to call you back on your Thai number. That might throw them off the scent for a while.

I borrowed 1,000 pounds from Nat West or Lloyds (can't recall) when i was a student over 4 years ago. Never heard from them again... I wonder what will happen?

The reality is that governments simply increase the tax on those who do pay, to cater for non-payers like CE.
