Do you trust your thai wife?

Like many people I came to Thailand and fell in love, I went back to her hometown in Isaan a small rural community. I was surprised how many women had farrang husbands or boyfriends I met about 12 in this small town I met them in not the best circumstances playing cards and getting drunk it was like this everyday of the week, I thought how can their partners support this they must have big money so I asked around where their partners are from and what they work (at this time all their partners where back at home working) and they told me such as builder, truck driver, janitor, writer, butcher, taxi driver etc... just normal jobs these men are working and sending money to support their wives drinking and gambling these women where not playing just for fun it was 5,000-20,000 baht a day. I asked my girlfriend how can they afford all this and she told me a few of their stories such as one of the women's husband had been saving to retire and had been buying up farm land and every time he comes over he buys some land and soon as he goes back she sells it so hes gonna have a big surprise when he comes to retire and has nothing, another women had sold the house that her partner had brought to live in 6 months of the year and when he comes she rents it from who she sold it too and when he goes back she moves out again, another sold the 1,000,000 baht car and does the same thing just rents it when he comes back, all the stories where like this their partner buys something to set them up for the future and as soon as they are gone its sold. When you look at these women they didn't look like bad people but they where so selfish there partners to them where just another customer.

Over the next few weeks I was starting to see them out and about in the town and in the "casino" with thai men and I who ask my girlfriend who's he she would said it's her boyfriend, I saw 10 of the 12 women with thai men some of these men had been with these women longer than she had been with her farrang partner years and years. The thai man doesn't care about sharing his lady with a farrang because when you are back at home working he living in your house and spending your money so when you think you are supporting her and her family it more like her to play cards, get drunk and her boyfriend.


So when you are sending money over thinking that you are gonna be set up to retire when your 65 or whenever don't be surprised that you have nothing in Thailand when it comes to it. Some of these women had been with their husbands for years but at the end of the day you mean nothing to them I might have been in your town, met your wife or girlfriend it could be your house or your car. I learned from this and know its impossible to have a long distance relationship with a thai, they have no understanding about saving for the future its just live for today.

The thing is some times the man is so in love and just does wanna see what it really is, I was very sad to see this side too because I did love her and want too stay there and retire there but I could see it was just a dream and had to walk away, and these where no all bar girls my partner was not a bar girl some of these women he met their partners on the internet or just in everyday life not in the bar and some of them did have previously good jobs such as nurses and teachers but when the money comes they stop working and this is the reality you are their job

I am not having a go at thai people, I just needed to get it off my chest I felt so bad for these men and I didn't even know them. I know cheating and loss of money can happen anywhere it just 10 of the 12 women in this small town I just don't like them odds.

But Best of Luck to you if you have a wife and I just hope it was none of you or anyone you know.

Saying if you are stupid enough to get involved is just not right, many people have no idea that this is going on and when the come to Thailand and see their wife they are completely different not drinking and playing cards, but in Isaan playing cards is something that nearly everyone does just not when their husband stays they love playing I have seen people playing for 16 hours straight losing big money. One other lady owed 100,000 baht and was being threatened to have her children killed but this did not stop her playing everyday and theres only one person who will be paying the bill the farrang it will be my dad's in hospital or I've had a motorbike accident.

,., I really don't understand why you think this is made up why would I do that, I'm just sharing my experiences there, I did have a great time too its just not for me giving away money that I've worked hard for for someone to gamble it away (when I don't gamble myself) or to give to their other boyfriend. If I had more money than sense maybe I would but thats not the case unlike you by the sounds of things.

Even that the minimum wage in Isaan is as low as 141 baht a day when I saw these Lady's spending and losing thousands of baht a day it was "oh it's just 2,000 baht, just 10,000 baht" they just don't understand that not all farrang have millions in the bank,

I agree with Crippen, he seems to have a realistic view on things, what's the problem?

Next February I will have been in Thailand 10 years, and I still haven't had a serious relationship with a Thai girl. I know they exist though, but finding an attractive one with integrity as well as a great waist, bust and face - it might happen, it's been a decade so must be coming soon, not that I'm looking.

I am not going to say this does not happen, but there are some of us who have found a good Thai lady that does not fit the above description. For those of you that are still looking, they are out there. There are many threads about this topic, so why is it being rehashed again?
