im off on a beano round laos and cambodia tomorow and would like to ask you chaps whats the best way to go about changing baht to dollar.

    use the banks here?
    change it at the airport?
use the atms in laos and cambo?
use money changers in loas and cambo?

any advice would be much appreciated, with regards to the best rates etc

The last time I went to Laos they didn't have atm's yet so my advice is no good.

Except for Cambo last year. I took dorras.

In Laos ,at least in Vientiane. , I found no need for dollars ,Thai Baht are accepted and having a nice brick of Laos Kip is part of the fun

ATMs there , but the one i used only gave out small amounts

it doesn't seem very smart to change your baht to dollars when you can change directly to the local currency, thus only being ripped off once

Dunno about Laos, but Cambodia's currency is worthless

    They prefer US Dollars

can't speak for Cambo , but in Laos it's best to bring Baht & change into Kip as & when . The xchange rate is 263 Kip per Baht as of today , plenty of bank booths in the city centre , for after hours you can change at the same rate in any of the M-Point minimarts , ( Laos equivalent to 7/11 ) .
When you're in Vientiane & if you fancy a cold one , send me a PM

Only got advice for Laos mate.
Take a few dollars (35ish) for the visa. This will save you around 500 baht at Laos Imm.
Can use baht freely when in Laos, but when buying stuff they will give you the change in Kip monolopy money.
Make sure you use all the Kip shite before leaving 'cos it can't get changed once you're out the country.
    Have a good one.
You have reception on your Thai mobile in Vientianne, so if you need a few pointers for bars and stuff you know where I am.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.
